This has been annoying me for a while now; how is it that a skink, being a lizard without lips, can operate a blowpipe? There are no special fittings on the pipes, they're just a plain round tube.

it boggles the mind, people.....

I think it's one of the several running gags within the Lizardmen army.

Ever seen a lizard's tongue? They wrap those things around the pipe and, with amazing breath control, blow along the tongue and through the pipe.

Considering that Sinks are 5 feet tall and can talk is the lack of lips really somthing to nit pick over?

I always thought skins are the size of dogs o_o

blow pipes i assume they can shove it down their throat.

since both of those things are possible, if unlikely, from a scientific point of view, I've decided to focus on the one tiny, very silly thing I can find about them: blowpipes!

in all seriousness, it just dawned on me as one of those "heeeey, wait a minute!" moments, that I thought I'd share with any dakkaites who hadn't considered it yet

The blowpipes are not powered by air pressure, but a small line of tendon that is elastic. They pull it back with their teeth and let fly, like the japanese version of a blowpipe.

Makes sense, so thats how they shoot it from underwater.

Well they are aquatic, so maybe they are squishy like salamanders/frogs and do have lips.

Lips are actual muscle structures, not just folds of skin. I don't recall ever seeing reptiles or amphibians with them. Squishyness won't particularly help.

Along the same line, how can you have skeleton musicians with a horn?

The skinks have a small grove at the front of their mouth to allow them to flick their tongue out without opening their mouth.

The blowpipe is held to this groove.

That is how I view it.

Thats the one that always got me. Eventually I decided that it's either a) GW is very, very silly; or b) they're "ghost horns" that emit otherworldy notes from lipless mouths.

Take your pick, depending on how charitable you are.
