Last night I moved my skimmer ontop of a piece of terrain then rolled the dice for immobilization.

I then next turn tried to move off the piece of terrain and rolled the dice for immobilization before moving, and since I rolled a 1 I stayed in the terrain.

Is this correct?

It sounds right to me, based on the fact that if a tank fails the roll for immobilization it stops at the edge of the terrain, not in it.

I would extrapolate from this that the test for starting your move in difficult terrain is at the start of your move(which is to say, as soon as you contact the terrain) and if failed you don't get to move.

The rules don't define when the test for starting your move in difficult terrain is taken though so it's a bit unclear.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

I think it was impassible terrain.

Was I even allowed to end the skimmer in impassible terrain? It was like a volcano thingy.

yeah, skimmers can end on impassable terrain as long as you can actually put thier stand on it. It counts as difficult terrain i.e. they take the test.
