David Arneson, along with Gary Gygax created Dungeons & Dragons.

Well, poo. At least Gary now has a fellow party member in his battles with death.

That's sad, farewell man who helped invent the sole good thing I did throughout my HS years. You will be missed.

I ttotally got to play D and D with him at Coast con a few years ago and it was a enjoyable experience. Pretty nice guy. I got my book signed by him . Sad to hear he passed away.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

Damn. Two men who've had such an effect on so many, gone way too soon.

Saddening, isn't it? Most of those fanboys who rave about how Warcraft (and, to an extent, Warhammer) are wonderful, original ideas. Without Gary and David, gaming in all its forms would be radically different.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I had no idea he was a teacher at Full Sail too. That's pretty interesting.

I wasn't as aware of David Arneson and his influence on D&D (and the hobby in general) as I was of Gary Gygax, but this is no less saddening. It always sucks to hear that someone who has had a positive effect on your life and the lives of others has died. The fact that he was only 61 makes it kind of a shock too, but I guess none of us know when we're going to go - but that's really neither here nor there at this point.

Thanks, Mr. Arneson.

Godspeed.

A good man has passed on. Dave would play at Sci Fi City in Orlando, Fl, and work with his students the last few years. A good guy.

He will be missed.

You'd think the creator and co-creator of D&D would fair better on their savings throws. It looks like even as DM's they weren't able to manipulate the dice in their favor.

They definately shaped a large portion of my life.

I'd like to think that they were needed elsewhere.

Without D&D, I wouldn't have found Tolkien, or Conan, or Dragonlance. Which means I would not have found Warhammer and 40k.

He will be missed.

It is indeed sad. All to often now it seems we hear of those men (lets be honest, no girls on the intarwebs ) who so shaped fantasy and sci fi passing away.

-sigh-

Order of the Stick (Link to first comic, if you haven't read it, what the hell are you waiting for!) had what I consider a very fitting tribute (Edit: Woops already linked. Ah well, I'll leave it here so you HAVE to see it ):
