Hello all. I just picked up a chaos space marine codex, and was wondering if anybody had some pictures or ideas to convert normal SM tactical squads into CSM without needing CSM bits? I realize that doing a renegade chapter is probably the easiest route, but I wanted to get some other ideas. Thanks in advance!

Well you can think of them as recently joining chaos as you said renegade chapter, remove all SM emblems and add some spikes. Not a lot of spikes but if you have drill bits and toothpicks you're set. Thats what I'm doing with my AOBR SM's.

Take red paint and paint an X on all imperial symbols. Or add chaos symbols to the armour.

You could distress the armor with holes and cracks, I did that and then since I was doing nurgle, I added pustoles, open sores, writhings things with greenstuff.

I don't know if it counts, but I am doing a soul-drinkers army. I will post some pictures when I get around to taking them

you could do a lot of weathering effects on your models to make the armor and weapons look aged and lacking proper care. There's a pretty good tutorial here on dakka http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/234672.page
