Well I have decided to take the plunge and enter Hive Fleet Nocturne in the UK GT in November. I have been playing Nids for three years and consider myself a veteran, but I have little experience in attending the GT. I attended in 2006, but my army was not chosen by choice, rather by what was painted (which was not a lot). Therefore I spent my time there in the bottom few tables.
Now I will state I am going to the GT this year to have a laugh with my mates, but I would like to give a better account of myself this time around.
So I would like to ask those tourny vets amongst you what advice you have for attending a GT with Nids, any advice at all.

I don't have a list written yet, but I have a few units that I'm thinking will be a definate: double scythed Tyrant with 2 guard, 32 hormagaunts, 2 x 10 genestealers (with tendrils), 4 raveners and a fex or two.

The world needs wannabes.

Well the two list you want to beat are going to be Nob Bikers, Lash, and Fateweaver Bloodcrusher.

If you can make a list that beats those three lists 70% of the time you will have a good shot.

I would give your Carnifex barbed strangler, and VC so you can instant kill nobs at long range. Make sure your tyrant has Shadows of the warp, I also would give him 2 X TL Devourers instead of claws. 12 TL living ammo shots at str 5 is hard to pass up. IMO Hormiguants are a waste of point, I would just go with a squad or two of barebones guants with spinefists. Genestealers are great but only when outflanking in 2 or more units. I find raveners to be a bit pricey for what they do, but thats your call.

Over all I would recommend playing a couple games Vs the tier 1 armies before you go. It will also help if you brush up on your "Allocating wound on different multi-wound models" rules. As well as the rules for assaulting multiple units.

Cheers!

I totally agree with this, although I find 32 hormagaunts to be very useful, especially at strength 4.

I would also throw in one minimum squad of spinegaunts with without number, just to grab that home objective after they get wiped out and the hormagaunts are on the other side of the board.

Also, I would run three tyrant guard.

Build a fire for a man and he will be warm for a day; set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain.

Sly Marbo doesn't go to ground, the ground comes to him.

KK, so in general, heres good things to run against those lists: Flanking stealers, cleans up lootas, or provides a very dangerous target that cant be passed up for a turn, def agree wioth the W# gaunts, boomfexes are def good, even on biker nobz, low numbers in orks still means poss of failing leadership and that insta kill gun can be good. Tyrant with Tl devourers and gaurd is gross,...just gross. One thing I would consider would be thropes. If you go horde, 3 thropes surrounded by gaunts is a nice little wall of death...Anyways just my two sense, give us an idea of what you want to go and we can help better...

Armies I play:
-5000 pts
-2500 pts
Mechanicus -1850 pts

Cheers for the advice guys. I do have a Tyrant with 2 x twin devourers and I was thinking of taking it as well as the other Tyrant and maybe a single fex. The hormagaunts are definately staying as even if they do not actually kill masses of stuff they can still soak up a lot of fire and bog enemy units down. I don't have a fex with BS and Vc, but I do have one with twin BS, one with BS and twin death spitters and one with VC and talons. I don't have a lot of cash before I go, but I was thinking of getting two more raveners for a brood of six and the plan would be they would flank with the stealers and a brood of winged warriors. What do you think?

The Blood Crushers are in the US. In the UK you need to be able to beat Seer Councils on bikes.
