Hello!
Anyone have an idea on how the black on this Scythe of the Emperor Space Marine was highlighted?

Looks to me like chaos black with regal blue highlights. Real thin highlights, by the look of it.

i would say that he mixed shadow grey into the black, until it got to a colour that he liked...

First highlight regal blue
2nd: watered mordian blue
3rd: 1:4 ratio mordian blue to astronimican grey
( on the boot ) or on edges.

It might just be a trick of the light, but there certainly seems to be some shade of blue in the highlights...

It does look bluer than shadow grey, but not by much. I doubt you could get results looking anywhere close to that with regal blue.. do they still make Festering Blue? Unless I'm mixing up my old hexagonals, that used to be just a bit bluer than shadow grey.
Best of luck in any case.. good looking blacks are always a challenge!
