hiya,

How well does PVA stick to plastic ? I'm sure I read somewhere to use it to stick sand to bases, but in the past I've had it flake off of the plastic. what do you guys use ?

Thanks for your advice,

Stubby

PVA will not stick particularly well to plastic.

If you want to apply sand to a base, here's what I suggest: Prime the base. This will put some texture into the plastic that the PVA can stick to. Then paint on some diluted PVA, dip it in sand, tap off excess, let it dry. Then come back with heavily diluted pva, and soak the sand thoroughly with it. When that is dry, it won't be going anywhere. Even less so with some paint on it.

I gouge multiple lines on the base with a scalpel to provide some 'grip' for the PVA glue.

Another option is to use thick polystyrene glue (the kind that comes in tubes) to glue stuff to bases - it's a lot more expensive than PVA, but at least you know it's not going to peel off.

It works fine for sticking stuff to bases. Just make sure you apply a coat of paint or sealer over it. I use it all the time and I never have the problem of it coming off.
