I got into a good discussion with a teammate the other day about a battle we played. I Had a Brood Lord with a retinue of 11 Genestealers, and i infiltrated them to 18" of an enemy squad. Since the Genestealers have fleet of claw and I upgraded them with the Scuttle/Scout, does the Brood Lord also get those bonuses on move and assault distances? Any help with this would be appreciated.

No the broodlord does not benefit from them. The moral of the story: Broodlords are useless in 5th.

Could they benefit from scout and fleet of claw in fourth because their retinue did?

Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain.

No idea. Never played 4th much. (Mostly played 2nd and a bit of 3rd) Even if it did, its irrelevant. In 5th edition he doest, because both Scout and Fleet are marked with an Asterisk, and USR's so marked "are automatically lost by an independent character joining a unit that does not have the same special rule. These rules are also lost by a unit that is joined by an independent character that does not have the same special rule."

I wasn't saying you were wrong about the special rules, I know that part was right. I was just curious about you saying they were "useless in 5th." It seemed to imply a point in time when they...weren't useless.
I wasn't being picky. I was generally curious if I misremembered. I'll assume I didn't.

Ah my apologies.
I can only assume it did work in 4th because it sure as hell doesn't work now

Ok, I broke out the fourth ed rulebook. Didn't work then either.
And for some reason this thing smells like formaldehyde. Talk about a dead rules set.

Hmm, well I don't know then to be honest.
But at least in 4th they could capture objectives, now they can only contest because the Retinue counts as a HQ slot.
You'd be better off with a bunch of warriors tbfh

Or, my personal favorite, the tyrant with tyrant guard...despite the rules weirdness that unit brings.
Oh, and to the OP, make sure you read Gwar's post to me where he was quoting the rules. Reading that and reading the first post again, it's key to note that not only does the broodlord not benefit from scout or fleet, he takes them away from the stealers as well. So scuttlers is literally a waste of points.

I love my Broodlord. I don't think he's useless, just confuzzled. He just needs to learn how to run on all sixes again. I especially love him for the "free" Outflank. Course, his retinue not scoring kinda stings a little.
I've been contemplating getting him a pimpmobile.

You are of course, free to house rule this as you please, though don't expect everyone to be so accommodating

The Blord is better in 5E than he was in 4E. The new edition has made it a viable unit again.
While no fleet, he can now Run; so he can get from cover to cover.
With the new retinue rules, he can't be picked out in CC, so he is more protected.
With Outflank, you have another option of getting him into enemy deployment zones.
With the new preferred enemy rules, and flesh hook rules; he and retinue are more deadly for less points.
And he is still one of the best CC models in the entire game.

Hes one of the best CC models in the game that stands 12 inches away from 10 bolters when you infiltrate and goes: Bah! Foiled again!
You have to be within rapid fire range to hit melee.

Who posted a house rule? I mentioned that the Broodlord miraculously forgot how to use all six of his legs, I never said I was going to play him with Fleet.

Given Feeder Tendrils and a retinue with Acid Maw he can easily kill just about anything in an assault. Outflanking this unit can easily wreak havok.
Useless? No.
Better than a Tyrant with guard? Also no. . . but used in different manners. Same for (~250 points) 9 warriors.

Thanks for all the info guys, i guess i'll just drop him and beef up my flying Tyrant and Warriors. I'll be posting the pics of the Tyrant with his new wings tonight, so be sure to check him out, It was my first attempt at using the Green Stuff. I used to much, but it turned out better than i expected for the size of the wings i used.

You have to be within rapid fire range to hit melee.
Or you Outflank. Plus, he can be a great fire magnet; noone wants him running amok.

Thats exactly how I use him. Use him to take some of the heat off your fexes or tyrant. Its pretty much guaranteed that people are gonna be using heavy weapons to take him out, and the less they fire at your flyrant (for me anyway), then all the better.
