So, i know they are not really competative but if you guys at dakka had to run deathwing then what would you take?
I want to keep it quite pure, maybe one unit that isnt DW like an ally. Here is my example 1500 point list.
Belial
Inquisitor + combi melta, 2 mystics, 2 warriors with meltas
5 man AC/CF/apoth
5 man AC/CF
5 man AC/CF
LRC

They got rid of that "Dark Angels dont trust anybody so no allies" rule. So yea... Inquisitors, assassins, and kroot the hell out of em.
I personally love taking my Interrogator in termy army along side Belial, as he has always worked well for me and that ever-so-helpful re-roll to hit on the charge.

I would think that drop podding dreadnoughts with melta would be alot more useful than the LRC's, and also will allow you to take more DW squads. I'm thinking just deepstrike everything if you can in most circumstances.

In reply to this, we had a question on this at my local club. If I wanted to deep strike EVERYTHING in my DW army, do I have to have at least one unit start out on the table at the beginning of the game? DW can deep strike the same way at drop pods on the first turn, but the question still remains.
If a unit does have to be on the table at the start, then I can see placing a firebase dread and deeping the rest.
God that sounds fun.

There is no requirement to start a unit on the board. If everything can deep strike, then deepstrike. Demons is an example of an army that can do this.

I find LRC suck in my DW army. I'd rather have regular LR's.
The trouble I have had lately. Beating horde Orks, catching mech lists.
@ 1500 pts......15 terminators will not win very much. x2 LRC is a huge point sink.
Consider adding a squad of 3 RW bikes and attack bike. Use them to bring down termies without scatter via bikes have teleport homers. Consider using CML for ranged fire.

For the scattering purpose, I would probably also take a small RW detachment to bring the Deathwing right on their heads and not scatter and maybe knock them out of the game. Also, giving your bikes meltaguns or something could make them reliable Anti-Tank (+ a MM AB)

Personally I love LRCs in my DW army.
14 AV scoring vehicles with tons of anti-infantry weapons, a MM, PoTMS that can both move and shoot, and smoke that laughs at meltas, since they can only glance on the turn it is popped
There is alot to be said for the LRC in a DW list. By using them, you not only spam AV 14, but you also protect your termies from being killed in the early game. DW termies don't like to absorb fire for 5 turns, when they can do it for only 1-2 turns and be just as effective, thanks to making their LRCs scoring by sitting in them. Plus, the LRC gives your DW frag grenades the turn that they assault out of it..which all LC termies love!

With DW you usually have to pick one of three options:
1) Mech with Land Raider Spam. My current DW is 2 regular LR's and one LR Crusader.
2) DoubleWing with a squad or two of min sized Ravenwing bike squads and attack bikes. This army either starts in reserve and deepstrikes off of the RW homers or starts on the board and attempts to overwhelm a portion of the enemy army with semi-mobile firepower.
3) Terminator "Horde" with maybe a Dread or two for extra support. Several squads either deepstriking in (vs. IG, Tau, etc) or using the "Shoot and Scoot" method vs. Orks, Tyranids. Personally I think this is the weakest of the three.

Tell me more Ozy...I have a bunch of terminators that are already painted (my old Lysander-wing) and I'm wondering how I can still use them. I was thinking Deathwing was the way to go. The LR spam doesn't seem to work at 1500 or less, and how is the horde less powerful?

I agree that the LR spam is probably best at 1750 or 1850 as it allows you to get three squads in 3 LR and still have room for Belial and a Chappy or Libby (my preference).
I think the Horde approach doesn't work as it is lacking in mobility. You can deepstrike a squad or two but I've found that Deathwing armies really need to stick together in order to be effective. Every time I've split off a unit for a specific task it ends up getting isolated and destroyed for no real gain.
I don't think it's weak, but I do think it is weaker than both Doublewing and LR spam. YMMV of course; you may want to ask Hellfury, I believe he plays more of a Horde approach and has had some success.
