right so the question is this.

dose the dark reaper temptest launcher ignore (for the most part) cover saves?

at first i would say that it dose, because it is a "G 36" inch... meaning that you would work out cover saves based on where the template landed because it is a G weapon.
so if it lands on a unit behind a rhino for example, no cover save.
if it lands on a unit in a forest (or in any other area terrein), then yes, you would get a cover save.

but then i take another look at that, and think that it is a tad to powerfull. combine that temptest launcher with fast shot, +4 body guards, mabey a farseer to foturne / guide them. and you got yourself a 227 (more with a farseer) point nasty MEQ killing machine.

if this is so, i may very well drop a wraithlord and a few other bits to get a second unit of these buggers.

To answer your question; Yes, depending on the scatter die it can ignore cover saves.

how much will the dark reaper box be after the tards at GW raise prices again??

and when will the price increase take affect??

i am going to pick up 2 of the newer boxed sets for these guys. but 30$ is my limmit, i got 6 of the crappy old models that will make a fine unit, and i can trade for another unit of older models off of one of our 15+ years eldar vets.

Try having a look-see at the GW homepage.

Heck..just take "Crack Shot" for your exarch and you are guarenteed to ignore cover with the Tempest launcher....which is exactly how it is intended to be played

I usually take two of these and a bare-bones, sword-only WL (to accompany my CC units) when I can afford it. They're a very flexible unit with great range, good anti-horde/anti-meq capabilities whose main drawback is lack of mobility. That's what Falcons are for...

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

as far as cost, the prices on the $90 battleforces are going up by $5

so I'd guess that means no more than $5 increase in individual box sets, if that.

never quite know with GW though.

why take crack shot when you can get one more small blast a turn for just 10 more points and still ignor cover 90% of the time.... that unit has taken out at least twice it points in all but one game ive played them in... the only one it dident do well in was when it got lashed whiped forward twice and charged by 2 deamon princes on the first turn.

I think it would depend on your opponents, but since crack shot + missile launcher = tempest launcher (points wise) they are a good comparison, compared to the tempest launcher the missile launcher has 1 worse AP, 1 less shot, 12" more range, requires line of sight, more versatile (anti vehicle mode). That's all I can think of, but since the missile launcher has crack shot with it, you can also use it to clear out units in woods and other area terrain which would normally still protect them from a tempest launcher, as well as not risk scattering behind some small terrain piece and granting cover.

Obviously the tempest can also take crack shot if you have the points to spare, in which case the main difference is, the tempest can kill marines better and the missile launcher can kill vehicles better.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

Yeah fully agreed, the TL simply begs to be combined with the crack shot exarch skill.
I had already come to that conclusion in 4th edition where half of cover was classed as 5+
and units didn't give cover to other units behind them.

Because crack shot lets you re-roll the to wound roll. Re-rolling the to wound roll makes the weapon 50% more deadly against T4. So vs T4+ crack shot is actually better than fast shot for less points.

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"...
