Right, so I finally got tired of lugging my models around on makeshift bases at tourneys. So I decided to makes a display base.

There are a few criteria that I must meet.

1. This will be my first display base, so going to keep things on the simple side.
2. I want to be able to switch out the base so I can go from snow to city to... ect ect.
3. It must look decent enough, nothing to fancy... but I want it to look better then my grade school dinosaur diorama.
4. It must be practical, so nothing like the "Red Orktober" http://bushido40k.blogspot.com/2009/04/adepticon-hunt-for-red-orktober.html

Hear is a list of materials I will be using... all of this can be bought at Low's, or Menards.

2x - 1 by 2 inch by 6 foot long boards (around $1.30 each)

1x sheet of 1/2 or 1 inch thick, 4 foot by 8 foot insulation sheet (around $7)... its the pink crap everyone makes hills out of, but I picked up a sheet of the blue stuff... if you get the larger sheet (like the one I picked up), you will be able to make a few display boards, with enough left to make hills or building to put on them.

1x sheet of sheet board (I can’t remember how it’s spelled, but I am using lueon... it’s really cheep stuff, perfect for my needs) (forgot how much, but no more then a couple of bucks for a large sheet)

Optional 2x drawer handles (anywhere from $1 - $5 each... buy whatever strikes your fancy) used for carrying the base (obviously) so while not necessary I think they are worth the money.

Optional 4x metal L brackets. Again, only a few bucks for pack. These will add a lot of support for the frame, again worth the money IMO

the basic idear is to build a frame with the 1x2's, put the L brackets inside the frame, glue / nail the sheet board onto the bottom of the base, screw the handles onto the 2 short sides, make display boards out of the insulation sheet that are the perfect size to slip into and out of the frame... its not mandatory, but I am going to sand and stain the wood, maybe take the time to varnish it as well.

I am not sure what size I will make my base yet... I know it will be large enough to fit a homemade Blood Bowl pitch in it. I will hammer out that little detail tonight.

Construction will start tomorrow. I will be taking Pictures of the WIP, and I will post them along with the instructions... maybe I will turn this into an article (how dose one go about doing that?)

It is 90% done. Going to let the stain dry. Then all we have left is to put the varnish on and let it sit overnight.

I have pics of the construction I will try and post up later tonight.

I should have pics of finished frame within a few days.

Measured the blood bowl pitch, and added a few more inches in both directions for a total of 32in wide by 22in deep. That gives me more then enough room for a pitch, and large enough to display a 2,000 point army without much of a problem. The first display board has been cut to fit in the frame, but that will not be done for a while now.

Anyone got ideas for display boards?
