I've heard mention of Eldar Seer Councils. Yet I can't find any datasheet on them other than the Apoc formation. I would just say they are a remnant from a previous edition if I didn't still see them listed in many Eldar Army lists.
Am I missing something?

Indeed, there is a datasheet for Seer Councils in Apocalypse.
A Seer Council consists of one or more Farseer and a retinue of Warlocks. The corresponding entry can be found in the Eldar codex.

A seer council is the name given to a large unit of warlocks led by a farseer or two. The name is left over from the previous version of the codex when only ulthwe armies could have them, but its still pretty accurate so its still in use.
Your typical seer council will include a farseer with doom and fortune and 5-8 warlocks with a coupule of enhance (just in case one dies), an embolden and a few destructors. They will often be mounted in a waveserpent or on jetbikes.
They can be one of the most effective units in the game.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live? |

New question. Is this farseer Warlock combination regarded as a retinue? and how many KP is the unit worth 2?

Well, retinues always count as different unit for KP issues.
A Seer Council is one of the toughest units in the game, almost impossible to kill.
I generally run a Farseer w/ fortune and 8-10 Warlocks w/ embolden x2, enhance.

If this Farseer and Warlock combination isn't considered a retinue then it will be easily disabled by singling out the Farseer in CC...
Remember each Warlock (must) come with a power, the unit you mentioned comes in at 430pts assuming the remaining Warlock have Destructor. That is an expensive unit for what it does.
So is this indeed a retinue?

Well, a Farseer can eventually cast fortune.

Not really, a Farseer needs a power, a Warlock not.

Yes, it is.

Excellent thanks for the info.
You are right i just checked must for Farseer may for Warlock.
A Farseer singled out can be killed quite easily fortune or not. Such is my experience. But since this is a retinue there's no need to worry.
Thanks for the info folks.

When I fielded Eldrad with retinue, he never got killed, also not in the GT (heat and final 2008)
Excellent thanks for the info.
You're welcome.

I was under the impression that the Farseer and Bodyguard weren't a retinue, and were actually two separate units.

Whitedragon is right, they are not a retinue, the farseer(s) is free to leave the unit, unlike a retinue.
Picking out the farseer would be fine. apart from the fact he just mind war-ed you into oblivion.

Yeah not a fan of seer councils, too many points in one basket that has counters. Yes, a 4+ invul reroll is tough, but it only takes one CC to swarm your Farseer and down him effectively negating the council. Also, witch blades aren't power weapons so while they crush vehicles, SM your trying to get past a 3+ armor. Eldrad adds a lot of potency to the combo with his power staff and 3+ invul, but swarm attacks can still down him.
