Just wondering what people think of the army and if it's got anything going for it, a few people are playing them at my local store so I was wondering if it's anything I should be worried about (I play CSM)

Deadshane1 seems to have some success with them, but they certainly aren't considered top-tier. Most of the "competitive" lists seem to revolve around 3 Land Raiders (usually normal, not Crusaders) and lots of Power Armored GKs for scoring purposes. at 1850 Points you're probably looking at a 30 model army.

Be warned that since the Daemonhunters codex is so old, they have a lot of rules quirks that a good DH general can take advantage of to make you suffer. A GM's NFW can insta-kill your DP even though you have eternal warrior due to wording in the codex (slay outright instead of insta-kill). If he take ungents of warding, your lash may not be very effective since he'll have a save.

On the plus side, your oblits will give him problems (especially if you've min-maxed) and besides LRs and Dreads, he has almost no anti-tank/MC/TEQ firepower.

Kill the LRs, kill the troops, mop up and you should win.

They are a very good list against most of the power builds nowadays but actually suffer versus the take all comer builds. You have to be very careful with every move you make but they can be nasty if used right. Oh and killing 3 LR's isn't easy though I normally only field 2.

I play GK and I can say that the only way I lose is by making tactical errors. GK are good unless you make more then one mistake. They simply do not have the numbers to warrent careless or risky moves. However I do love the army and don't mind that I lose 2/3 of the games with them. If they go radical watch of out deamon hosts. They have some nasty abilities such as regaining all wounds and then moving anywhere on the board. However that all depends on the roll of a . DH also majory lack any anti-tank. The only thing we have is dreads and then LR and orbital strikes. Also watch out for the temple assassins. The vindicare can pick out individual unites and the others have some fun things. I don't have the codex on me at the moment Sorry.

I play GK as well, and find that it is reasonably competitive, but I have Guard allies, so that helps with the antitank and cheap meatshield numbers. My 1500pt GK army has a model count of 79, and that includes 12 GKs and 6 GKTs. It also includes a massive allied IG infantry platoon from the new IG codex, with an attached commissar for bolster their "resolve".

I use inquisitorial stormtroopers myself. Thinking about it my modle count is somewhere around 6 terminators 10 gk and then 20 stormtroopers. (for 1500) Then 2 landraiders and some wargear. I also toss in an iquisitor.

I have a handfull. Of GKs that I keep around for those occasion where I might be plaving vs Daemons, and the occasional C'Tan. But as far as a solid GK force, I don't think I would ever want one.

I use a GK Land Raider Ares against tanks, a Dread w/TL Lascannon + Missile Launcher. Also the Grand Master w/Hammerhand (S8) can take out weak tanks in CC.

3 land raiders. That alone makes the good again.

I need some Land Raiders for my Knights. As of right now the only tank killing I do is a deep striking Thunderhammer to the side of something. And that doesn't have a good track record of success...a\

Search for an article titled "Way of the Water Warrior" the author has a somewhat arrogant tone, but he does know what he's talking about.

Generally once I get over 1000 pts I start to load on the Land Raiders. (Never crusaders, always standard pattern). At 2000 pts I usually field a Grand-Master with a bodyguard of four termies, 3 ten man squads of PAGKs, each with a psycannon, and three raiders. The GM deep strikes and the PAGKs all ride raiders.

Isn't Ares pattern the five lascannon, Apocalypse one? As in the, "Ah hell, this is Apoc, why am I even bothering to stick to one codex?" As in the, "Ahh hell, why am I not taking a titan?"

I've never seen a GK player. There is a nicely painted one at the FLGS.

Deadshane did very well with his three landraider list in the Adepticon championship RTT... Three wins and a top ten finish IIRC.

The Ares has a Demolisher cannon from the Vindicator, the one you're on about is the Terminus.
