I love the green!

The devil fish and the warriors have a Native American Feel to them. I think they are painted fantasticlly but due to my bad associations with Native Americans I can't put my seal of approval on them.

Your 'bad association with Native Americans'? LOL -

I really like the scheme painting is very well done. I would work a little more on the bases (that would seal the deal)

Please note - terms like 'always/never' are carried with the basic understanding that there are exceptions to the rule, and therefore are used to mean generally...

I agree, bases do need a lot more work. I'm just not sure what I want to do with them yet. Any ideas?

I like the green Stealthsuits, and while I'm not normally a fan of fishheads, I can say I do like these.

As far as improving them goes, try thinning your paints a bit. That should make them look a bit smoother. The tan on the FWs is just a little too bright, so possibly apply a brown or tan wash to dull things there.

Other than that, great paint jobs! Keep it up, and welcome to Dakka!

Also, the bases. They are bland, no?

I recommend something along the lines of this:

Urban!

You could also go for something natural looking, which would enhance the Native American feel these guys have.

Very nice modles. Ive always loved tau that look like that (heavily black lined in the crevases)

As for the bases yes they do need something on them. But don't go to overboard on them. Keep it simple. Your paint job will more then make up for a lack of omph on the bases. Id probably advise using some cork and making a few largish rocks here and there on the bases. Simple enough and it will make them look just a little better.

Also welcome to our forums.

I LOVE those urban bases. Do you know where there is a tutorial so I can see what needs to be done to get that effect?

Nice hard lines, looks very anime'ish to me, which fits the army.

Quite a unique colour scheme there! Well done. I particularly like the Stealth Suit colours - they're looking pretty badass

Wow, so clean! These tau are beautiful! I would love to see a whole army painted in this scheme. I also really like the stealth suit, looks like it really is blending into something

Great work... thanks for posting it

Wow, those are really great! My only thing is that while I think the Devilfish looks awesome, especially with the weathering effects, I'm just not digging the grey that much. It feels like there is too much and it isn't really seen in an of the other models. But besides that little personal opinion, they all look great! Excellent work!

Congratulations, your dismissive and conclusory commentary has provided nothing to this discussion or the wider community on whose behalf you arrogantly presume to speak nor does it engage in any meaningful way the remark it lamely targets. But you did manage to gain experience points toward your next level of internet tough guy.

Digging the Tau paint scheme, but not digging the camo of the Stealth Suits at all. The Stealth Suits would have the normal paint scheme, but maybe modified. Their technology makes them blend into their surroundings... Not their suit scheme.

I'm trying to give each group of characters its own personality while making the army look together as a whole. The stealth suits are an exception, but the basic paint scheme is as follows:

Vehicles/mechs -> Predominantly shadow grey, with elements picked out in scab red and vomit brown.
Firewarriors/tau troops -> Predominantly vomit brown , with elements picked out in scab red and shadow grey.
Commanders/Special characters -> Predominantly scab red , with elements picked out in shadow grey and vomit brown.
Kroot -> Earthy tones for skin, materials in scab red/shadow grey/vomit brown variants.
Vespids -> Like lizardmen with materials in scab red/shadow grey/vomit brown variants.

That's the plan anyway.

Will post more pictures when I get them

good job, especially the kroot. they have enough color differentiation to make stuff like rags/bodyparts stick out but not enough to make the whole "i'm hiding in the forest because i'm a bird *kaw*" camo unbelieveable. bravo.

I like the idea of your color scheme for the different units. It will make them stand out and have a lot of character and I think the paint scheme on the stealth suit implies that there's some crazy stealth field technology going on... not that it's Actually painted on

Awesome stuff!

Hahaha,

Thanks, I was just painting camo on the stealth guys. But now you mention it, it DOES look like there is some crazy stealth field technology going on! And from now on, that's what I'm going to tell people.

These next images are the first few elements that I got for my army. I wasn't sure about colour scheme's or any of that stuff. I painted the blue crisis suit and drone. My brother painted the tan crisis suit. The firewarriors are a joint effort. About the only thing that I am happy with on these figures is how clean I got the lines for a first attempt and the weathering on the blue crisis suit. Nothing else is really up to scratch. After I finished painting these I went on loads of different forums and read as many tutorials as I could.
