Hydra 75pts

Command Squads and Psyker battle squads park in Chimeras in the middle of deployment surrounding the Hydra and fire big blasts from their hatches. This should place them far enough back to avoid or reduce incoming fire for a couple of turns. The Executioners place themselves near the flanks to try to cover the weak side armor of the chimeras. Vets with Plasma hang back behind the executioners in chimeras waiting to rush out and alpha strike from their firing hatches. Vets with Meltas go on suicide runs inside Vendettas up the flanks. Vendettas try to side shot any transports while sneaking closer to the flanks and any heavy armored targets (Land Raiders, etc.). Executioners Obliterate anything coming head on thats a high priority. With 5 Plasma Cannon shots they should hit on target roughly twice a round, enough to devastate most squads.

Assuming things work out moderately well, any large tanks or MC that get close enough get the full brunt of the plasma gunners jumping out from their transports and firing 3 linked Plasma Guns with the Command Squad Orders. Additionally the fleet officers give penalties to opponents reserves.

To drop to 1850, lose a command Squad and buy Camo-Netting for the Hydra. It should not have to move and if you can get the front facing blocked by another tank, you might be able to pull the 2+ cover save! Though more than likely only a 3+.

Ahh, a vehicular castle! Indeed!

I like the incorporation of your notes on some tactics, it makes the army make more sense than just the posted numbers!

Capitalizing on the IG officers and use of orders will probably be a very importnat part of playing with the new IG dex. Good concept here.

Sure would be a nice painted force as well!

It's not a bad list, but I think you'll do better by replacing the MoOs with Astropaths or just getting rid of them altogether. You could also stand to lose a chimera or two for your melta vets and just load them into your Vendettas - I don't see any other units making use of the Vendetta's transport ability. I think if you're going to bring Hydras, you need to bring multiple - one won't be enough.

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

The Melta vets don't have transports, they are intended to ride the Vendettas. The Astropaths are not going to be needed, I have no intention of ever using Outflank with the Vendettas, and the MoO is there to throw a couple more pie plates my oponnents way. Even in they each only kill 2 marines they pay for themselves.

Doh - my bad. I misread. I imagine if you're never planning on outflanking or holding the Vendettas in reserve for DSing, then I guess you don't need the Astropath.

That said, I still think the MoO is points better spent elsewhere. Pull them out and find 15 more points and you've got another Hydra.

Yeah, I'd suggest finding points for another Hydra, or maybe some hellhounds. You'll still have trouble in this list getting guys out of cover, and hellhounds/their variants are ideal for this. Maybe consider cutting back on some veteran squads? Leaves you with fewer troops, but the firepower might be worth it. Maybe also drop a few psykers - really, -7LD is all you need for just about anyone, and S7 is still respectable if not devastating. You have meltas for that.

I think you need to tool up a bit on your anti-cover. Get some flamers or cover ignoring stuff in there!!

I also think that the demolition's expert is worth every point when making anti-tank vet squads, giving them all melta bomb's helps when all you do is immobilize the thing (especially since you aren't going to be close enough to your CCS for orders, plus one demo charge actually makes them a bit usefull against clustered units or can be thrown at a tank as well.

Also like everyone else is saying either 2 hydra's or ditch it for a colossus or medusa .

Yes, yes, as Warmaster said, ditch the MoO for a Medusa with Breacher shells.

and how many vox packs should I plaster on my guys? since a 'squad' is now 50 guys, would 1 Vox cover all 50(within 12") and just place the vox guy right in the middle of everything? I'm still slightly confused. I don't own my own copy of the dex yet and I wont be taking another trip to the local GW store for quite awhile...

all these strategies are giving me ideas of what to do with my army lists and I'm liking it!
