Hopeless Slave
|
Hello everyone, I had a quick question I was hoping someone could help me with. My girlfriend and I are just getting into the game and I need some advice on expanding beyond our battle boxes. I play Khador and she plays Circle. I'd like to pick up a new warcaster/warlock and a unit for each of us as my next purchase but I would like to keep things balanced between the two armies.
I know some of the typical advice (ie get Widowmakers) but would that throw off the balance between the two armies? Also, which warcaster/warlock would do well with the battle box contents besides the ones that we started with?

On the Circle side:
Honestly, no one other than Kaya can get any real use out of two Argus, but every Warlock can effectively use a Warpwolf. Heck, I've got three Argus myself, and I never use them unless I'm playing epic Kaya. Circle really does not have a very good Battlebox unfortunately.
Without changing anything else, Krueger is your best bet for an alternate Warlock, but that's only because he can do a lot of damage to infantry on his own without any support.
The best option for expansion of the Circle list is to pick up a Woldwarden and a Woldwyrd. With a Warpwolf, Woldwarden, and Woldwyrd, any Circle Warlock has a solid warpack. Add to this any one of the Circle units (can't comment on Reeves though) and you've got a solid list. I recommend Wolves of Orboros as a very solid and independent starter unit.

Kaya, Warpwolf, Pureblood Warpwolf, Gorax is an incredibly powerful 350 list.
None of the warlocks work well with two Argus in this game size. You're better off swapping out or adding to the beasts. The Gorax and Woldwyrd are both similar points costs to Argus'
Kromac is probably your best bet for a second warlock if you're going to continue playing battle box style games.

Widowmaker
|
On the Khador side, Widowmakers are anti-infantry shooters. If your opponent doesn't take any or very little infantry, their effectiveness will be limited.
I'd say Widowmakers or Ironfang Pikemen would be your best bets. Neither unit changed much in Mark II, so they'll be good to learn with and you won't get confused when the switch is official. IFP are kind of a pain to assemble, if that matters to you. Winterguard are decent unit that was overpriced in Mark I but had attachments to make them good. In Mark II, they're cheap as dirt. If you like them, check them out.
For a second warcaster, I'd go with Vlad or the Butcher. They'll both play like really strong solos for you now, but in Mark II they'll get better at powering jacks (and worse at being solos) which fits your army as it is really well.

re/Khador:
Widowmakers are pretty much your next purchases. After that the manhunter, IFP, a mortar, or more 'jacks (a good idea in Mk II). I'd go either Kodiak or Berzerker personally, but you could make a strong argument for a Devastator or Spriggan. Something along those lines.
As for next caster, I agree with oomie: either Vlad or the Butcher. Unless you want to go infantry heavy, in which case Irusk is your man.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil |
