Played in a 1500 point tournament today (4 games) and ended up with third overall.

After plowing through 2 VC armies I realised that there is only 1 thing that needs to change with the army.

Each mage should only be able to cast their spells once per magic phase.

All the other stuff that makes VCs annoying in a tournament situation is based around 1 dice spam casting.

Also Zombie tarpit horde is so boring to play against.

Salamanders are great.
I think the barbed razordons are a better choice thanks to the higher strength and the stand and shoot but I ran sallies over the weekend and the made thier points back, and more in each game.

The trick I found was to get to a forest, or other terrain then maintain about 8 inches from the flank of the enemy and blast away. I took 2 so in almost every turn at least one of them would work, usually both.

I relly like the change, it offers up a whole ne dimension to the lizzies.

Not for a couple of months simply because I haven't been able to get to a tourney and I've been prepping 120 models for when I get to go out west for work without wife and child and can do nothing but watch sci-fi TV show dvds and paint.

Looking to use them again later in the year though.

Indeed. Making danse a non-necromatic spell would be a good, simple starter fix to vc-armybook (in addition to changing/repricing couple of magic items), but if the summon-mechanic is alterered I think the whole book would require a rewrite in that case.

It worked for the last 3 editions, why wouldn't 1 casting of a spell by each mage (who had rolled it) in this one not work?

I never had a problem with casting invocation once per mage per turn...

The only good comparison can be made with the previous book, as it was published during the 6th edition in which the invocation had many powerlevels for casting. This kind of system could certainly be brought back and taking the recastability of spells out wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea. It would require rewriting lots of stuff, though, such as changing the whole vampire magic lore and tweaking the points values and rules of many magic items/vampiric powers. I have to say I don't see summon spam without recastable dance too bad, but it helps if tournie organizers take summoned units into consideartion when making scenarios (summoned guys can't take objectives etc.).

The ability to keep throwing 1 dice (so no miscasts) with a +1 to cast (when ability is taken) is extremely frustrating for the opponent.
It takes away the big negative risk in casting and makes it very hard to stop a summon spam tarpit army from ever being worn down (on the weekend I put a 6 attack saurus scar vet and a unit of saurus with HW and shield (+9 attacks) against a unit of 25 zombies with standard. 4 rounds of combat later, after killing 52 of them with attacks and crumble deaths, theer were still 18 to go, thanks to the 2 vamps standing nearby.

In my oponion (and the opinions of many that I play with) making dance a 1-cast only spell and taking away the +1 to cast abilities are prety much it. Everything else is fine really.
The regen banner is annoying but it is only one unit and it costs a lot. Its real power comes from the endless troops behind it, remove that and your fine.

Kroxigor play quite differently now.

Since losing their St 7 they are no longer 'no go zones' for chariots and I managed to get charged by 2 white lion chariots on the weekend.

they bonced and I tabled my opponent, but only through bad luck on the part of my opponent.
If they had been St 7 the chariots would have been forced much wider...

Forever alone

I'm wondering whether to replace my Spawn with Scyla Anfingrimm. As tough as my Warriors are, a meatshield that can use Eye of the Gods is nice.
