I drew a better picture this time.

Assuming the red is a dreadnought, blue are two broadsides, and green is two crisis suits, here is the situation.

The broadsides want to shoot at the dreadnought. They are shooting through the crisis unit. Their guns are pretty high and can see over the shield drone on the left to the dreadnought's feet. However my opponent imagined the space in between the crisis suit and shield drone as under the intervening model rules meant his dreadnought got a cover save.

This is an actual game, not a theoretical question. Does the dreadnought get a cover save?

Oh and a theoretical question: if it was just a terminator, would it get a cover save?

The Dread is a vehicle, so it must be covered at least 50% by intervening models. Just being seen through another unit is not enough for MCs and vehicles.

A terminator would get a cover save if both the models in the Crisis Team you were shooting through were on the same level as the Broadside and could block LOS if in the way. If one of them were on the ground and cold be seen over, I'd say no.

There was no way that a lone gun drone could block 50% or more of a Dreadnought.

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

Remember that the rules to obscure a Vehicle (Dreadnought) are very different from rules to obscure non-vehicle units.

A vehicle is not automatically obscured when there are models in-between.

Actually, if the Dread is far enough away, and the drone close enough to the firer, LOS could be COMPLETELY blocked, much less the 50% required for a coversave. This is due to a little thing known in the art world as 'perspective'.

However, the situation as posted equals no save for the dread.

The idea is that it takes extra effort and time to write properly, and they’d rather save the time. If you can still be understood, what’s the harm? While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

Unless that gun drone is so tall that it's at the head level of the Broadside, no cover. Remember, for non-vehicles you check LoS from the head, not the weapon.
