That's what I use. Maybe the sand grains are too large. I get my sand from the local playground, then sift it.

Weird. Cheapo glue? You let it dry, right? Use superglue, if you're careful, or get the PVA that I'm using ATM (Bostik). It works. A sprayed basecoat can also help bond sand to the base.

It might be because of the cheapo glue, i should think its too big its stuff form GW old but still sourced from there ?

ill try searching for a better glue when i get time

How did you go about the basing?

The way I do it is to put the unwatered down PVA on the base where I want the sand/granite chips to stick, then sprinkle on the sand etc, then immediately put the watered PVA glue over it like a wash. You need to cover the sand etc completely to ensure it is sealed down. I then let it dry completely (overnight is good) before priming and painting.

I have put the watered down PVA on to seal the base after it has dried off and had similar problems...

I apply glue to my base, dip in the sand, and then let it dry overnight. Afterwards, I mix some Liquitex Burnt Umber with water and PVA and give it a wash. The Liquitex and PVA help it bond a little better.

I paint the base with pva, then dip into the sand and let dry. I then shake off excess sand (gentle taps on the base) and apply more glue+sand to any bare areas.

Once the base has a sufficient coating of sand, and the glue is dry, I cover it with another coat of glue - this time a 50/50 ish mix of pva/water - but i add a drop of dishliquid to the mix (it changes the surface tension and gives a better coverage).

Let dry, then paint and drybrush as normal.

These bases have lasted me for years. Especially considering that once the model is finished, it gets hit with estapol to lock it all in.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
