I'm building a 10 tank Leman Russ squadron, "Oddball's Misfits', and want some opinions on whether it's better to have sponsons on all the tanks or only on HVT (ie bullet magnets) tanks such as Vanquishers and other tanks I'll build mounting something better than the standard issue battle cannon. Or possibly the other way around and only sponson on the regular LRBT's protecting the HVT Russ tanks. Any thoughts and / or playing experience is a[preciated.

This is more of a tactics question than painting and modelling, but I understand why you posted it here. This really depends on how you're playing the army. If you're using the existing Armor Company or Apocalypse rules, I think sponsons are really left to personal preference. If you're using the new IG codex, you'll be limited to a max of 9 Leman Russes - 3 3-tank squadrons. Some folks disagree with me about this, but I've been working on a new strategy where you pimp your primary tank in a squadron and run the other two naked. Using the squadron rules, you can do some pretty amusing things with cover and hit allocations that increase the survivability of your primary tank.
