I'm looking to painting up (and converting) models to sell on ebay or on my site. Just wondering what kind of stuff people are looking for in 40k and other games?

I don't want to create a painting service, just fill a niche in the market by offering good models, some with conversion work, to fill spots in armies that otherwise aren't filled, or when people want a good looking centerpiece unit, or just some new poses for current units to add more individuality to an army.

What do you look for when you consider buying painted, or just converted models online?

First only ever pick models from the following armies:

Chaos Space Marines, Eldar, Imperial Guard, Orks, Space Marines, Tau Empire, Tyranids

Second you should chose models that people want to use.

Chaos terminator lord, winged daemon prince, chaos terminators, chaos space marines, khorne beserkers, plague marines, obliterators, vindicator.

Avatar, farseer on jetbike, fire dragons, banshees, jetbikes, wave serpents, falcons, fire prisms, wraithlords.

Guardsmen, veterans, chimera, valkyrie, battle tank, demolisher, hydra.

Warboss on bike, nob bikers, ork boyz.

Commander, jump pack chaplain, terminator chaplain, terminators, dreadnoughts, sternguard, tactical marines, drop pods, assault marines, land raider.

Crisis with plasma rifle missile pod and multitracker, fire warriors, kroot, broadsides, hammerhead.

Winged hive tyrant, carnifex (make sure you find what the effective kits are), gaunts, hormagaunts, zoanthropes.

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

You want to paint up the newest figures since those are the ones that no one has, and they are looking to add to their collection.

It also depends on how good of a painter you are. If you are really good painter you can make a lot of money by just painting Harlequins.

Also onlainari has a good idea by painting up the most common units in the most common armies, that way you will have the most people interested in buying them.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I'm decent-to-good painter. I know a lot of the professional techniques but haven't practiced them much. It's part of a whole artistic retraining I'm undergoing. Painting miniatures helps improve other parts of my artistic career.

I'll take a look at doing some chaos stuff, a lot of the chaos stuff I see painted is pretty muddy brown with lots of nurgle corruption haphazardly applied, looks okay but a lot of the cool definition within the miniature is lost. I'd like to see if I can manage color choices to get a colorful chaos nurgle unit.

I've wanted to do some eldar so banshees sounds fun.

Then since the IG just came out and I spotted a leftover box of Kasrkins in my store, I'll paint that up to use as stormtroopers. I'll probably pickup some of the new IG characters.
