So I've decided to start Tau as my second army and I'm having trouble deciding which color scheme to use. I've been trolling around looking at galleries and such and I have found a few that I like. I was wondering what recommendations and/or comments you have for these schemes. So far I think I like the Blue and Orange the best. Like these:

I think I like the dark blue better and came up with a firewarrior scheme, but I'm not too sure of it. I think it has too much of the light blue in it.

I also came across a decent red scheme but I'm not sure if I would like it throughout the whole army.

Any comments on these would be appreciated.

The blue w/ orange are beautiful. The red... Not so much.

Did you paint the above pics yourself? If so the red guy is absolutely amazing I love it. But yeah a whole army of that would be tough. I am 100% going to steal that for a special character or two.

Colour wise My favorite models above are the drones and the guy that is with them. I think that the tanks would benefit from more of the orange that is on the rim of the drone just for some interest. I don't like the camo effect on the second tank.

Also do you know where there are any tutorials to show how the effects on the red guy were achieved?

Yeah that blue/grey and orange really pops! Looks great! Especially the guy with the two drones.

The bit stuck on the side of England. Wales isn't it.

I think the tau colours are ment to blend in with the surroundings . So if you use particular scenery/board more than others, then I could be based on that.

I have a very similar scheme for my Tau, only my light color is more grey than light blue. I think it works pretty well. The only problem is the orange is visually much more powerful than the grey so if I'm not careful it can look like a Chicago Bears uniform.

Haha no I did not paint any of this myself, just pulled it from coolminiornot, though I wish I could . After some toiling I have come up with this.

It has more separation of the colors and I think it blends better. And I figured Tau are more stoic in their colors, so more of the dark blue was needed and less of the light blue everywhere. I think I am going to do the chest circle for the squad colors. I don't know what I will do with the circle on the gun though.

Just something to consider- dark blue and black do not look so good when they are next together, or so I am told. (D@mn fiancee telling me I cant wear my dark blue jeans with my black shirts)

Yeah, tau are known for good camo with whatever theater of war they are in. I would consider going with something that matches the colors of the board you use at home or where ever you play most. If that doesn't work well for you, try making the whole scheme more complimentary. dark blue and black CAN look decent next to each other, but you have to be careful, and make sure to highlight. Overall, i would say lose the black, make the fatigues dark blue, the armor a lighter shade of blue, and the accent color and even lighter blue or even white.

Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.

Yeah but where they are fighting is not necessarily where they are from. Plus that would mean making them green. And I already play Dark Angels :\. I'm sure once I put paint on the model it will look fine.

I get around this by saying that Tau armour plates are equipped with color-phase technology (stealth suits are active and can automatically adapt their colors and patterns to the things around them at a moment's notice, while non-stealth equipment is non-active and must be pre-programmed in.) So in the "real" battle all of their equipment changes to good camo designs, but since I'm not interested in painting that my army is represented with parade colour models, with the colour-phase left to the imagination. It's like orcs speaking Cockney instead of the Dark Tongue of Sauron- it is merely a symbolic representation of what they "really" are like.
