Subject: Modifying the GW "new style" Ork Trukk tires... (Final Update)

This thread is two fold...
First:
Has anyone out there added different wheels to their Ork Trukk? I didn't see anything in the gallery. I'm curious as I'm not a fan of the stock GW tires with bolted plates on them and I'm changing them to slightly larger, aggressive tread, tires. I have a pretty good idea of how I'm going to accomplish this (my first conversion like this) but I figured I'd put the question out there so that another may share any potential difficulties.
Second:
I'll post images of how I am doing it (with any help from others) to share with DakkaDakka in case anyone else may be interested.
Thanks in advance!

Okay, apparently no one has done this so I am charging forward. Am I the only one that doesn’t like the stock tires? I guess so.
Here we have the usual suspects and the new tires/wheels to show the difference in size. I know my new front wheel is about the size of the stock back wheels and I could save myself some grief but I am also going for slightly different look to my trukk.
Changing the trukk in this way I have three main problems I must overcome…
1.) The stock GW axle mounts are spaced too close together to accommodate room for my new rear tires.
2.) The stock GW axles do not allow enough clearance below the bed of the trukk for my new tires.
3.) Modifying the back of the trukk will potentially create the need to modify the front so the new front tires are even with the back.
Now I could simply put spacers in between the axles and their mounts to give the trukk a bit of lift (just like actual pick-up lift kits) from its tires while mounting the rear most axle a bit farther back. This solution would be the easiest but then the leaf springs would be in the wrong place ruining the ascetic of the trukk (such that it is).
I’m going to chop the frame of the trukk just between the two rear leaf springs and elongate it using styrene L and/or I beams from Evergreen Models. It will only be lengthened about 10mm+/-. Once this is done I will also have to elongate the bed of the truck a bit. I will probably do this from the back as not to screw with any of the side mounting armor. I will decide on that after I see how it looks.
This is the project I am going to work on this weekend. Please send any comments you have my way and also, If I am missing something obvious or you see a potential problem that I overlooked, please let me know. Thanks.

Those wheels are gonna look sweet when it's finished. Extending the chassis shouldn't pose much of a problem. Just make sure you cut it cleanly and line it all up properly but you look like you know what you're doing. I look forward to seeing the pics of the finished conversion.

Make sure the toy wheels you use don't have Goodyear written on them. During a game your Trukk may just randomly flip.

I actually like the stock Trukk wheels. Course, I'm not an Ork player, so my opinion isn't worth much.
Anyway. This should be an interesting conversion. You'll end up with a Monsta' Trukk, so to speak.

I apparently lied and did not get to work on this during the weekend. But the last two nights I have and here are the results so far...
Note the modified bed in the background. The bed fits fine now and it will actually look good as the tow hitch now will stick out slightly. No further mods needed. I also have not really worried about the drive shaft yet as I am going to use styrene tube and use it to give the undercarriage a bit of support as the lift kit definitely weakened the axle mounts.
As you can see, it changes the profile quite a bit. I have leeway with how far in or out I can mount the wheels and will wait to finish the whole trukk and judge what depth is best.
Next the front axle...

I really like the way they did the new ork trukk tyres.. makes out that orks haven't quite grasped the idea of an air proof symmetrical tube.. so they patch parts of it with metal.

So you were lucky enough to find replacement tyres with axle holes that that fit the truck axles? I've had a lot of trouble with that - usually fixed with some plastic tube, but still a pain.
Your conversion looks good, it's a useful exercise in biggerising the trukk if nothing else!
Personally I do like the new ork tyres, however I wish GW would release them in a non-orky variant too, they'd be snapped up by converters everywhere

Actually, it's important to note that I had to drill out the plastic axle hole to fit the trukk axles.

Front chassis complete and here is what the whole thing looks like...
The wheels are not permanently attached yet so they may seem off a bit. That's it for my conversion. The final trukk will show up on my P&M blog after completed for the monthly update. Thanks!

Looks freaking sweet. For the extra monster truck look, get a second set of the vertical straight pipes for the other side of the engine block, maybe a pointless huge flag off the back>?
Here is a tip though, find maybe some round shields for hubcaps. I have a trukk with these as caps and they look sweet.

Not a bad idea. I kinda like the rims though. Once I primer them I'm gonna paint 'em red (to fulfill my Red 'Uns go Fasta rule). Maybe a good idea for the front rims as they are metal so I don't know what I'll be getting into as far as painting them yet.

I think that the "slightly off" wheels looks even more Orky, therefor pleasing to Gork and Mork! Do it! Go! Go! Go!
