Was just wondering, what is the thought of the regular vet sarge being able to take power weapons again? I think that the regular GM squad has become a threat once more.

GM? Guardsman?

The WS3, S3 is still not much of a threat. even with WS5, my S3 spider exarch has trouble killing stuff.

Dont base your plans around it working.

Even with a Power Weapon, he'll still get his ass kicked in CC.

I think the fact that you could possibly have 5 sergeants with power weapons in a 50 man squad, plus 5 commissar with the same, plus a character like Straken nearby would make them pretty intimidating. Heck if they can get a charge off (again with a character giving them Furious charge, ie: Straken or Creed) the sergeants and commissars have good chance of killing a whole marine squad. and the Guardsmen don't have to do anything but take the hits from the Marines.

Getting the charge with that unit will be tough though. However something that could help is Chenkov's conscripts. They take the initial charge and then are yanked, leaving the enemy open to assault next turn.

I think Creed helps this idea a bit more then Straken by letting you scout the conscripts.

So gimmicky and a crapton of points but sounds like fun

I agree with the recycling conscripts taking the charge, then pulling them. You could also try to pin things that are getting close too. A psychic choir could really help this idea. Ratlings + psychic choir should pin just about anything that isn't fearless.

Well, S3 power weapons are not worth considering.

Honestly though, how much would 50 guardsmen plus 5 commissars cost, inc. power weapons? Isnt it around 400 pts? All that for, what, 30 power weapon attacks? Doesnt seem worth it in my opinion, not to mention that the squad would have to kill 25 or so marines to make its points back. It really seems like a bad tactic, and one that costs points that would be better spent on tanks.
