So I've got a new list and I wanna see how you guys think it would perform in a tournement setting. Feel free to post your tourney lists to use as comparisons if you like. So, here we go:

HQ

Company Command Squad
Chimera, 2xMelta's, Fleet Officer

Troops

Veteran Squad
Chimera, 3xMeltas

Veteran Squad
Chimera, 3xMeltas

Veteran Squad
Chimera, 3xMeltas

Veteran Squad
Chimera, 3xPlasma Guns

Infantry Platoon
PCS-4xSniper Rifles

3xInfantry Squads-Autocannon, Grenade Launcher, 1xCommissar, 2xChimera

2xSpecial Weapon Teams-3xMelta's

Heavy Support

Leman Russ-3xHeavy Bolters

Leman Russ-3xHeavy Bolters

Griffon Squadron-2xGriffons

This is at 1,810, naturally no points can be given on individual basis until the codex is released. The following is what I'm thinking to fill the points.

Option 1:
Marbo, Poisonhound or Vendetta

Option 2:
Poisonhound or Vendetta, 2xSentinels

Options 3:
2xPlasma Sentinels, 4xRatlings

Option 4:
Psychic Choir in Chimera

Option 5:
Plasma Sentinel, Lascannon Heavy Weapon Squad

So thoughts on competativeness and or what the final points should go on. Naturally the big drawback is KP's (19+) but i think the list will be able to cope with most lists out there on any level. Comment please.

Special weapon squads cannot buy a chimera...dumb I know but them's the breaks (although I note you do not have chimera's for your basic platoons so maybe you are having them be from those)

I think I'd add the Banewolf fast tank, you have a lot of close range anti-tank, but nothing to discourage assault troops from getting to close (which although a bit spendy the Banewolf does nicely). Perhaps something with some lascannons as well to help break down enemy transports at longer ranges, an armoured sentinel w/lascannon?

Ooh! A perfect chance to promulgate my slogan:

"IG: If you're not taking two HQs, you're doing it wrong!"

Did you know that for only a few points more than that SW Squad of 3x BS 3 meltaguns, you can get a CHQ Squad with 4x BS 4 meltaguns.

And that's not all! We'll throw in an extra two wounds on the commander, and an extra two points of leadership! And the ability to issue two orders per turn! Plus they can ride in a Chimera without cheating! And if you order in the next 90 minutes, we'll throw in a free Refractor Field!

Why waste your time waiting for an all-important twin-linking order to pass on LD 7, when you can issue your own orders to yourself at LD9!

Order today! Supplies are limited!

Change the sniper rifles for grenade launchers:
1. Mobility, also helps giving orders
2. Frag grenades kill more infantry
3. Krak grenades aren't too bad against low av and monsters.
4. Grenade launchers are cool

Okay, a couple things...first off:

phantommaster wrote:You could have allied Grey Knights, you need some close combat.

No. No, no, no. Guard's strength is shooting. If you need to keep something from preventing you shooting, it should be the bodies of those that would otherwise be shooting. In this case, that's what Guard line squads are for. Particularly with a commissar. Hulksmash - I think you've got exactly the right idea with this.

Secondly:

Zaephyr wrote:Change the sniper rifles for grenade launchers:

Again, no, no, no. I mean, I don't really agree with a PCS loaded with sniper rifles (particularly since they're all BS3), but taking Grenade launchers for them instead is no way to go. Infantry kill tanks. Tanks kill infantry. The grenade launcher does neither of these things as well as other units in the Guard army. Guard troops are cheap and plentiful - consequently, they can afford to be specialized. Grenade launchers have been and continue to be the jack-of-all-trades weapon - meaning, they are the master of none. My preference is to give the PCS a Chimera and meltas, but you do already have 3 3x Vet Melta Squads and a CCS with 2x Meltas (and you also have 2 3x Melta SWS squads, but I think you can use those points better elsewhere). If you want the PCS to hang back, give them another Autocannon and spring for the plasma guns - you've got the points to spend on them, particularly if you're going AC/GL in your line squads (which isn't a bad thing). But 4 GLs or 4 sniper rifles? I think you've got better ways to spend the points.

Dave47 wrote:Ooh! A perfect chance to promulgate my slogan...

Dave47's slogan is beginning to get a little old (no offense, Dave47 - you'll get it ingrained in everyone eventually), but I do agree with him in principle. Dual CCS's is good thing. And as he said, certainly better than SWS's with meltas.

Otherwise, you've got a fairly solid list. I think you could do with changing the standard Russes to Executioners or Demolishers. But otherwise a good base list. As far as the options you're looking at, let's take a look at them:

Hulksmash wrote:Option 1:
Marbo, Poisonhound or Vendetta

If you go this route, I'd go Vendetta for the mobility. I've heard that Marbo can be effective as can be the Banewolf, but my money's still on the Vendetta, particularly as you don't have any other Valks or Vendettas in the list.

Hulksmash wrote:
Option 2:
Poisonhound or Vendetta, 2xSentinels

I don't think that Sentinels are that competitive. Fun, maybe, but not necessarily competitive.

Hulksmash wrote:Options 3:
2xPlasma Sentinels, 4xRatlings

I do like the new Ratling models, but I don't know how effective they'll be. Again your choices here seem more fun than competitive.

Hulksmash wrote:Option 4:
Psychic Choir in Chimera

From all the new IG batreps I'm reading, it's really looking like a Psychic Choir in a Chimera is a solid, solid unit. I think of all the options you have listed, this is the best one - even better than the Vendetta.

Hulksmash wrote:Option 5:
Plasma Sentinel, Lascannon Heavy Weapon Squad

I'm sure that folks are getting as tired of hearing me rail on IG lascannon HW teams as they are of hearing Dave47 talking about dual CCS's, but lascannons are not a cost effective means of killing enemy armor. As soon as GW released 5E, they dropped in effectiveness. Which is why you saw melta-spam drop armies from IG after the release of 5E. Even though IG are getting a new codex, it doesn't mean that lascannons have gotten any better. IMO, the only way for IG to reliably kill enemy armor is melta. Lascannons are points better spend elsewhere.

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

@jackmojo

Yeah, i just noticed that too so it's been edited to show they are in the infantry squads.

@Zaephyr
The sniper rifles are there because one of my bigger worries that this list has is the ability to take out things like Wraithlords, C'tan's, and GD. So they are in there for that extra wound or two that will make the difference. Plus they are babysitting the line squads so movement doesn't mean much to me.

@Dave47

It's a 25pt. difference. And your right about the extra help. I'll see if i can scrounge up the points. Mentally on CHQ's i'm still stuck in last edition w/1 per army only.

@phantommaster

DeathbyMonkey's said it all. In fact i've got a list that uses Allied GK's in the works (it'll actually be done first since the GK's are already painted ) but this list was for pure IG. Thanks for the feedback.

@DeathbyMonkey

The options were for the whole thing written. So each of the 5 was the remaining points for the list. Though the breakdown was good. On the topic of Lascannon HWS the 3 reasons i considered them was
1) long ranged anti-transport fire
2) possibly twin-linked long ranged anti-transport fire
3) Tyrannid MC's. I need to put wounds on them from farther away than 12".

As for the tanks I think until I test run them the Standard Leman is gonna be my buddy. It's mostly about the range. The own the other two options as well but I always find my way back to the standard russ.

And as an aside the Ratling models would just be sniper human models. I like the ratlings but they don't fit into my army appearance wise.

Great feedback guys. Keep it coming!

I'm rather disappointed in the lack of some of (what I consider) basic options for the heavy and support squads, no voxes, no transports.

I don't have much to say on the list. But, you still have an unresolved issue with me over on Bartertown. I would like the bitz I sent you back, and in return I will send you that craptacular, beat up, part missing Bloodthirster you sent.
