Well recently i decided to have a go at redesigning the rainbow warriors to not be a complete joke, while writing and researching i discovered there already was a chapter with the same fluff i was giving the revamped rainbow warriors and had a much better colour scheme.

So i decided to start the Raptors instead
Does anyone know of any decent fluff or sources of fluff (ie books, codices etc) about them?

Check out the 40K Lexicanum about them - lots of interesting stuff: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Raptors_(Chapter)

I had a Raptor army for a while as I liked the combination of a SM army into stealth and jungle warfare. But a few of the basics first:

- They're a Raven Guard second founding chapter.
- Original colors were blue and yellow, but are now olive drab green.
- They were supposed to take part in a crusade against Orks, but a warp storm forced their ships to crash land on a jungle deathworld. The air was so humid, the Techmarines had to modify the breathing units on all their helmets to be able to extract enough oxygen from the air.
- In the Third War for Armageddon, they were called upon to fight Orks in the equitorial jungles alongside the Catachans and Armageddon Ork Hunters.
- They were also a part of the Taros Campaign, discussed in FW's Imperial Armor II.

When I built my army, I converted all of their boltguns and bolt pistols to have suppressors (using brass rod) and gave everyone with a CCW the old "bowie knife"-style chainsword the old metal scouts carried. I also made heavy use of the old jungle sprues for basing. I special ordered Raptor waterslide decals from Griffon games for the army, too.

Here are some pics of my army (now sold):

Tanks loads for the information how did you paint that scheme?

I'm not the best painter in the world, so part of my choice of the Raptors was a super-easy paint scheme.

1) Primed black with Krylon matte black spray
2) Sprayed a base coat of Krylon olive drab
3) Wash with Future floor wax and Citadel black
4) Highlight w/ Catachan Green
5) Metal was painted black and drybrushed with Boltgun Metal

Other details were added afterward. I had just finished reading Richard Morgan's Broken Angels and thought that having Maori as the base genetic code for the Raptors would be cool - consequently, I tried to go for a darker skintone and attempted to add facial tattoos on the helmetless marines. It didn't work out nearly as well as I wanted it to. The pics aren't great, so you can't really tell the skintone, but it did turn out fairly well. The facial tattoos - not so much.

The Raptors also made a debut in Fire Warrior. Sgt. Ardias was partly responsible for the death of a Lord of Change at the hands of Shas'ui Kais. The Raptors actually did pretty damn good against Chaos Marines that they didn't see coming.
