Myself and my friends come up with rather creative ideas for mission scenarios, deployment, and all manner of other things. My friend who plays Tau idly mentioned how he wished Tau had war bikes. Then after seeing the Eldar jetbikes we decided we'd try and stat up some.

We planned on using Eldar jetbikes with fire warriors converted to sit on them and possibly affixing a gun drone to the front of it. The end result we're looking for is a twin-linked pulse carbine on the front, the T3(4), and the movement characteristic of Eldar jetbikes for move-shoot-move

The question is how many points per model would they be, what squad size, and where in the FOC would they go?

jetbikes have curved lines, visually i can't see them in a tau army, personally it is not the tau "style" of combat, i think that is the reason they dont have bikes, also they might not have bikes because just about everyone else does

though if there was such a "tau jetbike" i would put it in fast attack slot, give it a pulse carbine on the bottom, squad size would probably have to be 5-10ish i think

EasyE, you just described a tetra. It's basically a tau jetbike with a twin-linked pulse rifle if I recall correctly. Look in the imperial armor books.

and it is pretty rounded in it's visual design, actually.

This is one thing I am hoping for when we get a new dex. I think Tau are the only army who doesn't have some sort of bike or jetbike, that and the small blast marker.

Here is the statline I would use.

Shash'la - WS 2, BS 3, Str 3, T 3(4), W 1, I 2, A 1, Sv 3+, Ld 7
Shash'ui - WS 2, BS 3, Str 3, T 3(4), W 1, I 2, A 2, Sv 3+, Ld 8

TL - Pulse Carbines, 1 out of every 3 gets Rail Rifle, have JSJ

Basically put a FW on a Jetbike like an Eldar Guardian on a Bike. They should cost 20 points (eldar guardians are 2 points cheaper than a FW so their bikes should cost 2 points less than the guardians). 6-12 like normal FW squads and for now put them in the FA slot.

Hopefully we will be seeing the tau on bikes, helping mechtau live again.

Thanks for helping narrow things a bit. Gonna run it by my gamer buddy. I'll let ya know how it goes.

And I think every other army is the only army who doesn't have some sort of JSJ jetpack.

Well, Eldar do too.

Nice concept sketch, though I might suggest putting the rider closer to the center of mass, so it doesn't look like he's trying to hump a really big gun.

I hate to shoot down the idea of more JSJ, but he's right. Thats what piranhas are for. Now talk about giving piranha's JSJ and i'll be excited

1. That concept art is freakin' awesome.

2. He uses a squad of piranas for tank hunting with fusion guns.

The purpose is mostly for style than anything else, but the boosted toughness and JSJ are the upsides we're looking to gain. I also like the Carbines + Rail Rifle idea. It gives it the assault feel with the added punch of a nice AP 3 gun.

The new question is what kind of upgrades should they be allowed? Normal infantry wargear I'd imagine, but any special stuff from the vehicle armor that could carry over too?
