I'm thinking of building a new PC from scratch. I've been a mac nerd for 10 + years so I dunno what all the latest and greatest stuff is these days. What kind of components (processor, video card, etc) should I really be looking for for a high end but not bleeding edge system? I'm looking to build a solid gaming system, but I wanna stay under $2000.

I was on newegg just picking components and I got something pretty good (I think) for $1900. It was the new intel processor (i7 something or other?) & asus MB combo, video card was $300 it was a Nvida GTX 850 or something like that. blu ray drive, 8 gigs of ram, 1.5 gig HD, other goodies. would a low end new prociessor, or high end older one (dual core?). I definitely wanna do the 64 bit thing though...

hmm... that seems pretty cool. but, it's using some older pieces.. what I'm hoping to build something that will still be able to run the cool games 2 years from now before I start feeling like I need to upgrade stuff. thats why I was starting out with a more high end video card. I was gonna go with a 1 gb nvidia gtx 285 for $300

If it can run Crysis now it can run just about any game 2 years from now.

yeah I heard that's a great one. never tried it personally, but that's prolly the first one I'll pick up. Dunno what else is good out there nowadays. Waiting for Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3, but not holding my breath.

Crysis takes your hardware and runs it through the woodchipper, metaphorically. It's like a stress-test that you play. If you can run that at decent settings, your computer is in good shape for a long while to come.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
