Death-Dealing Ultramarine Devastator

The scene is 1500-2000 points, I have 3 defilers, lord and PM so far and have 500 points, I want (limited only to, not taking other suggestions):

a) 3 Dreadnoughts with left over (if any) points in to more PM. What weapons and/or upgrades do I take?

b) A squad of Khornate Champion Terminators all with lightning claws (with 6 attacks on the charge and RR wounds) mounted in a LR, probably the LR is possessed.

I say this because of the modeling and army theme I want to go with. I want to have a khornate choice, and I want them to be massive armored infantry. Usually Obliterators would be a third choice but I already have the 3 Defilers in the HS slot.

Between the two... I'd probably have to say take the dreads, but neither of the options you've presented here are all that viable...

The most I would go on dreads are 2, as they're quite unstable in game terms (though they do tend to be a lot of fun to play...).

As a fan of termie champions, myself, allow me to make a solid point: you're paying in excess of 50 points per model here, and leaving yourself in a really bad position if you come under a bit of serious plasma fire.

Things I've gotten other players to admit...

If you DO end up with the Dreadnoughts, go with two DCCWs, with Twin-Linked Bolters. Make them stay within a few inches of one another. That way, if they flip out, they just fire Bolters into each others AV 12.

On the Khorne Termies in a LR, it depends how many OTHER tanks you have. Land Raiders seem tough, but when every Lascannon, Meltagun and Railgun is going for it, it suddenly becomes a lot less survivable. And with the points you're spending on those Termies, they simply MUST make it to CC.

Well I did say I had 3 defilers... that seems like a pretty big threat!

Also I was considering on putting some PM's and/or the lord in a rhino or 2...

But yeh I'm thinking Dreadys with 2 CCW, also the instability is fun lol.

For the termies, they can still pack QUITE a punch. Even one or two can be a trouble if you put them in the right place!

Dreadnaughts are so over done also, khornate terminators are over done too but at least I can try bigifying them (like 'true scale' marines and scouts, but termies, khorne termies kekeke).

Dont take the dreads. After a lot of time playing with dreads and having then untterly fail to do what i want them to at crucial moments i strongly advise you against them.

Take the terminators, but dont give them all lightning claws. If you do they will get charged by something you cant hurt (like a defiler/dread/soulgringer/wratihlord) and then you can watch as your stupidly expensive squad of terminators slowly dies. Give at least one a chainfist (and a heavy flamer) so you can actually hurt vehicles with them and will be able to kill infantry in cover (terminators attacking infantry in cover is a recipie for disaster because they will always strike last). Actually i wouldnt make then all champions at all. There are far better things to spend the points on than 10pts for an extra S4 attack (more plague marines for example).

Defilers arent that much of a threat. There are enough anti-tank weapons around to make their lives difficult, and with such a large model you will almost never be able t0 claim a cover save. Additionally with the new guard codex coming out there will be a huge amount of autocannon on the field, which go through defilers like a hot knife through butter.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

Whats best for CSM? The old codex.

Next question...

Of the two choices given I would go for the Dreadnoughts, you have a strong theme to your army and as you havent spammed lash princes et al you have already moved away from the default list and are a 'themed' army builder.

There are advantages too, massed AV is better than few AV, vehicles are relatively weak but once you get enough of them you have a chance of drowning out most armies anti vehicle capabilities.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Are PM Plague Marines? If so then your army is not exactly Khorne themed.

Note if Dakka doesnt recognise your anacronym type it long hand, being less lazy also helps encourage people to respond, it is hard to tell where you are going with this list.
