I've read about some general tactics online on occasion. However, I've found a couple that I'm sure many folks employ but maybe not discussed why they utelize certain tactics. A couple I've noticed of late that has made me come to think about what others are out there. I think many folks get so wrapped up in army list construction as the auto win (although this is still important). I curious to read what some of the dakka community have come up with. A couple that spring to mind:
-During an objective game and my opponent has a unit holding an objective, I've been able to pull my opponent's unit off of the objective. I've been able to position a unit so as one model in my unit is about 6" away to assault. I declare the assault so only one is able to touch and the other models are moved in accordance to the 'move assaulters' section of the rulebook. Now, your opponent has to move his models in the same manner in which to engage as many models as possible. I've discovered that this can pull a unit off of the objective they were holding. A reason for doing this instead of just charing straight in is b/c your unit would be outmatched by your opponent's army even if you get the charge. This allows you to (possibly) survive the assault as your opponent's unit is unable to get all their models into assault. I've found this particularly useful against a large Ork mobs.
-Tank Shock. Sadly, this has not worked for me as there is just so many units out there with LD10 or Fearless. However, with carefull positioning, you can tank shock to push a unit into a pretty packed position. I've observed this work with efficiency with a Battlewagon. Tank shock a unit and clump them up. Then a unit of Burna Boyz jump out and lay down all the flamer templates. The number of hits and wounds can be staggering. I've read Eldar players utelizing this tactic with Storm Guardians inside Wave Serpents or Warlock squads.
-Fast attack slots. I know many folks don't give them much love, but some armies have great objective contesting units. Deff Koptas and Vypers are two that I've utelized and enjoy. Both move very fast and can stay out of the way a lot of times until the end of the game. I have also used 3 man Jetbike squads and keep them in reserve and pray I don't roll well for reserves. I'd like for them to come in late game and avoid all the shooting so as to contest an objective late game. In fact, with all the hype on the new IG strategy, I'd actually be happy to see my low cost, fast moving units not come in until turn 5. I'll gladly take the reserve roll penalty I see in so many IG army lists cropping up.
Now, these are pretty in game specific, but I think general enough that many armies could utelize. How about any other in game tactics/tricks you all have used with success.

Well, it's not in game, necessarily, but it helps with the in game. I take advantage of laziness. I'll get to the table and while I won't put my forces down as if I'm deploying them or claimin a side or quarter, I'll put the tray I'm carrying them on down on a side or quarter. Put my dice cube and codex near by. My opponents seem to gravitate to the other side of the table. So, when the roll to see who goes first comes, if they get it, they tend to choose the one that means they don't have to pick up their stuff and walk around to the other side. Which means I tend to get a better chance at getting them set up near cover for my bloodletters and such to hide behind when they DS in. It's also good if your facing fast moving stuff if you can get them to, 'on their own' choose a deployment area where most of their open paths of running away goes through terrain. Makes it easier to block them in.

I'd rather charge them to Contest. This has worked for me with Gun Drones against Wraithguard. Won me the game, that
Tank Shock is good against the new Guard. The Guardsmen low Ld makes for impressive results. I've heard of games being won against them simply through the use of Tank Shock.
Fast units in general are very nice to have. This is especially true with Loyalist Attack Bikes, which can turbo-boost and deliver some Melta love on that vehicle that needs to die. DSing Chaos Termies w/ Combis or Oblits are also good for delivering the Melta.
Deffkoptas are really good for harassment, since they can turbo with their Scout move and be right on top of the enemy on the first turn. They are also versatile, you can kit them out to deliver some Rokkit fun or mow people down with Shootas, both options being Twin-linked. If you don't get first turn, pfft, they have 3+ Cover saves and multiple Wounds. Even if they do go down, that's one turn of that shooting not going into killing the Boyz

Hmm, I'm sure I can think of more but the only one I can think of is similar to your first assulting objectives one.
I run tau so I really dont use this much but...
Lets say you have a unit of Tac SM and 7 of the 10 are sitting in cover. Assult only the ones out of cover. By doing this you force the defenders react move to either move the entire unit or at least the majority out of cover, allowing you to attack at Int, if you don't have grenades.

We need a thorough general tactics thread on here.
To contribute: Remember vehicles block LoS. If you have a unit sitting on an objective and it's late in the game they're officially more important than your rhino or land raider. Park a nice fat vehicle between them and enemy units to delay assaults or block LoS from shooting. This makes your opponent have to move around it unless they get an Explodes result which can't be relied on and/or move their units to fire around it which may affect their shooting due them having moved. You can play your vehicle like a goalie. I had a rhino frustrate me for three turns continually moving around a squad of marines and making it so my melee build tryanid warriors never got into assault.
Summary: In turns 5+ use remaining functional vehicles as mobile blockades to protect troops from shooting and assault.

-I've also seen (mine always die beforehand) vehicles with a Troop choice inside park on top of an objective.
-A trick I've observed from a Necron player was to park a Monolith on an objective for contesting purposes.

My favorite trick is to use the bewildering array of wargear that can be loaded into Space Wolf packs thanks to Wolf Guard pack leaders to its full advantage. No matter how limited the selection of gear is (particularly Blood Claw Bikers/Jump Packs) they need never lack a melta bomb, extra powerfist, rubber chicken, or gnawing bone!
