I have been reading some Horus Heresy stuff, seen battle reports of some mysterious "Gladiator" event on BoLS (apparently, small armies with titans) and thought I really need a Luna Wolves army with a Titan to accompany it. Fortunately, I might have some spare weeks a couple of month in the future, so this could actually happen. To make things even better, I decided to go with true-ish-scale marines...
The plan is to combine different true-scaling-patterns I found all over the internet. The core will be done in the way Elusive71 showed in his tutorial. My first attempt can be seen here:
As you can see, he's not really as big as the biggerized marines you normally encounter... however, as most of the work consists of straightening the legs and adding plastic spacers, I hope to be able to use this technique for the terminators as well. Furthermore, I intend to make Horus, too, by using the methods that are based on terminator legs. Also, I will have a look at the gothic marine pattern Doghouse invented, perhaps this will look cool as a veteran squad.
Probably this will never evolve into a playable army, but as I don't know anyone to play with anyway, this is not that important It certainly will be quite some fun (at least I hope so).

Hmmm this true scaling is intriguing
for the spacers can Plasticard be used cause isnt that applied into the joints and the joins covered over with a Green Stuff sculpt?? you know so as the legs appear bigger if so where do you cut?.
Once above the knee? and below the knee? spacers in the sculpt to get height? man I may have to experiment.... But yea I will be watching this thread as well.

looks like a great start
boss: best spacers are bottom of feet, knees and waist.

Here is Elusive71's tutorial on how to do true-scale marines:
http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.php?showtopic=31681&hl=true%20scale&st=25
There you can see where to put the spacers. The best thing about this method is (in my opinion), that it does not rely on so much greenstuff, so it actually seems possible to true-scale more marines than a squad without spending decades. Plus, this will hopefully work for terminators, too.

I am always fascinated by truescale projects. It is very hard to resist the urge to attempt such a project myself!

Quite similar to my own effort at true-scaling a few years back:
I took the torturously long route though, using entirely GS to extend the legs (I hadn't used plastic-card before at the time).
The marines do gain a few mm just by straightening the legs out and adding a couple mm spacer obviously adds even more!
Looking forward to more of this. There aren't enough good interpretations of Lunar Wolves out there.
Cheers,
Dante

For my true-scale chaos lads I put a spacer in the middle of the shins, the middle of the thighs, the bottom of the boots, a little between the legs and the torso, between the front and back of the torso, under the head, and then in the forearms, biceps and between the shoulders (though that was mostly for getting the angles I wanted.)
The reason for so many is to preserve the proportions, avoiding having oddly short arms, or really long thighs, etc. For spacers I used plastic card rough cut to the cross sectional shape of the limb, then trimmed down and smoothed over. It took a little while, but got pretty fast as I got better at it. The trick was remaking the detail I butchered cutting through all that CSM bling, which is why for the terminators I just added spacers to the feet and torso (but then CSM terminators are actually pretty decent height wise.)
Here's a in process pic:
Were I to do it again, I probably would have used a little thicker spacer. If I were to do it again and had lots of expendable cash and patience for using GS, I would use terminator legs as a basis like Migs and Co. did, but then I think those sometimes look a little TOO big, and of course you would have a lot of working making terminators from something else entirely.
Good luck on the project!

Thanks for the encouragement and thanks for the advice! I will certainly try this and compare.
The first bits arrived today (a load of torsos without that bloody eagle or wings on them), so the only thing I really need is legs...
However, while thinking about the heroes, I was wondering what Horus actually looked like. As I understand the description in Horus Rising, he looks rather slender and handsome, but on all the artwork, he is just an ugly brute. Perhaps this is do to the chaotic influence, I don't really know... If there are any suggestions which head to use, feel free to post it. Especially as Aximand and Abaddon look a lot like him apparently, and I want to do them bare-headed to give them a little more character, that's quite an important thing I have to find a solution for...
But now, I'm off for some holidays for a few weeks, and perhaps I'll have an idea until I'm back.
