not sure whether this is new or old news now, but I was looking on the GW site and the Battleforces dont come with Leman Russ Tanks anymore

Seems the Cadian and Catachan ones come with a command squad, 2xTroops, Heavy Weapon Squad, and a sentinel.

I havent used a sentinel in my IG guard at all yet so to me this seems like a bit of a money making ploy and/or a gip.

What are your thoughts? and did you already know this? (if so, sorry please dont flame me)

Will that be the trend with new battleforces?

HQ, 2 troops, and an extra?

Don't know what's in all the other boxes for the other armies.

This is pretty well known by now. It does fit GW's tendency to put the most overpriced kits in Battleforces to perk up the "savings." Sentinels are neat kits, but $25 for a single sprue is a bit steep compared to, say, $40 for many sprues for a full tank.

With what they have put up on their site so far it seems that none of the other battleforces are being changed as of the moment.
However most do come with 2 troops and an extra, but not so much on the HQ.

IG came with a Leman Russ instead of sentinel but you had to buy the command squad.
Space Marines came with an assault squad, 3 troops (since you can field 5 Marines as a troop choice) and a Rhino but no HQ

Not sure about others since I never bought those, but presumably they follow the trend of 2 Troops 2 Other

The new sentinel kit is IMO great compared to the old one but it is still too expensive/not good enough in game for me to use. The new battleforce is somewhat lacking, but they probably wanted to really get the new sentinel out there.

That or its the cheapest option to fill the BF up with.
And since chimera and LR is getting recut abit later they cant throw that in for May 2nd release.

Is the IG infantry sprue in any way retooled? Do they have Melta and Plasmaguns on them, or is the command sprue the only way to do this (in plastic)?

Are the metal special weapons being discontinued? What about the metal Officers, Medics, Standard bearers and Vox Casters?

A little far fetched but the IG might be getting a new battle force after the Russ and Chimera are redone. The Empire is getting a new Battalion boxed set this June.

Metal special weapons are still out there, as well as the blister containing the Cadian medic and banner. The only items discontinued are the fantastic Cadian colonel, master vox and wounded Cadian. The plastic command set replaces the current metal command squad.

WTF! Wasn't it in White Dwarf recently as one of the sculptor's favorite model? Couldn't they send him to mail order along with the wounded and the master vox?

People seem to be awfully sober in the Imperial Guard codex release brewery.

Hmm I for one welcome the new Cadian/Catachan plastics that command squad looks awesome

Plus now I can fully realise my Imperial Guard in plastics the battleforce however has got me thinking why take the Leman Russ out in favour of a sentinel 1 sentinel at that rate maybe a squadron would have worked better.

But meh thats me forever thinking "Plastic means more"

They dont call me Garybrandy for nothing!

how is it off topic? we hardly know what the topic even is!

I love the new Cadian command squad, I just wish that they'd keep the old metal command squad around, especially the colonel model.

I would use the battleforce boxes to supplement what I already had. Now I would hazard a guess they are kind of a "starter kit" in order for someone to get an HQ, some troops and a fast attack unit. The biggest problem I run into is I don't need another sentinel and I already have an HQ. More footsloggers are always nice, though.

I'm just looking for the old Battleforces if they're still around. For support units, Tanks as Heavies are easier to justify than just one sentinel fast attack unit. YMMV

Your kidding, the colonel with the sword, with possibly the most evocative expression I've ever seen sculpted on a model? This is one of the finest models they produce! They are still churning out oblits and old wartraks but that one figure, that Jes Goodwin described as his favourite in a bloody White Dwarf article only a couple of months ago, has been pulled from the shelves?!?

pathetic.

I only hope they keep him as direct order only and don't pull the same sneaky gak they did with the daemonettes and their 'we no longer produce that miniature...no, we no longer have the casts for that miniature'.

And the old hq anyway. I stocked 2 old battleforce set, planning to buy a new hq box and if a new russ box is coming out, than that too. So I'll be able to use all spec weapon form the hq box and I can make 3 specialised russ form the russ kit.

if the Colonel in question is the Sword/Plasma Pistol one then I am very happy to have purchased one before they were/are going to be pulled. He is the first figure I ever varnished and looks great.

And the old BF for the IG was still better IMO because a single Leman Russ on the field is worth more than a squadron of Sentinels. Plus with Leman Russ' costing $40 and $50 for a destroyer, it added more to the savings of the overall puchase

New battleforce makes me wanna cry. I can get 9 LRs now, but I can't get them in a battleforce with the infantry I need to get all 900 of em.

But even if you get yours now, wouldnt it be lacking weapon options that might be in the new kit?

Thats what im worried about so im not gluing mine D:

Maybe its wise not to assemble until the new kit arrives. Or use magnets.

I'm going to have to learn how to mod with magnets. not only does it seem worthwhile in terms of saving cash and leaving options available, but my sis has some Nids that I was already thinking about using magnets on.

Anyone have any links to some guides online for proper use of magnets with IG/Nids? I mean, I could guess but i'd rather have reference material...

It's in GW's best financial interests to put a sentinel instead of a Leman Russ in the Battleforce regardless of any rumored changes to the Russ sprues. They're both in the new codex, both plastic but the Leman Russ is something that you're very likely to buy even if it's not included in the battleforce. The same can't be said of the sentinel. (heck, i use 3 but i'm not the norm)

That might be moved to the collector's range, if they foresee demand for it. I mean, it's a great miniature.

I could see it in a blister, but I'm not ever going to own more than one of the models.

I'd like to see them have the colonel model separate. I never got the box set before because I already got the medic and standard in a blister and wasn't paying attention. I could use the other 2 models in the box set but have no use for an exactly the same 2nd medic and standard now.. oh well. I have a feeling he will end up on direct order just like all the other blisters are becoming.

For the battleforce, I think it's a good box set but they should just change the name to "platoon with free sentinel" instead of "battleforce", since that's what it is 1 pcs, 2 squads, 1 hw squad is a perfect sized platoon to start with. that's exactly how I'm gonna run my platoons, only I had to build em peacemeal.

I could use the extra bits from my demolisher kit so I'm not worried bout that. Also, I'm too lazy to redo any of my older models and I don't want to cheese with "plasma cannons all around".

IMO the best battleforce of all time is the Tyranid one. Because of the Carnifex inside. Each of the units in that battleforce is useful to the vast majority of Nid players, and getting 4 or 5 battleforces and a metal tyrant, and you have a solid force.

I'm just waiting on building the last 2 Carni's from my army, in case the new codex only allows 3 Carnifexes, as I am super worried that GW will do just that:

GW "Oh, here's a big FU to all you guys who bought 6 Carnifexes, no you can only use 3. What? What are you supposed to do with the other three? go play Apoc!"
