So, after reading others posts in my "Cursed Army" thread, I've decided once again to throw my ideas of a Crimson Fist army to the curb and build a Deathwatch army. I'd like the different models in the army to be representative of SM Chapters that have some affinity towards what the model is armed with. Here's an example of what I'm thinking of:

- Master of the Forge: Mentor Legion
- Multi-Melta Marine: Salamanders
- Land Speeder Crew: Ravenwing, White Scars
- Flamer Marine: Fire Angels

It's a fairly boring army, but here are the models that will be in the army:

- Master of the Forge w/ Conversion Beamer
- Telion
- Sniper Scouts
- Missile Launcher Scout
- Multi-Melta Dreadnoughts
- Marines w/ Bolters
- Marine Sgts
- Marines w/ Flamers
- Marines w/ Multi-Meltas
- Land Speeders
- Predators

What thoughts do folks have about what SM Chapters would work well for these types of models?

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

personally, i would have the sniper scouts be Raven Guard, and have telion be a counts-as Raven guard, also might look cool to have a Reviler in there with the scouts.

the MM Dread should probably be a Salamanders dread, or maybe from the Iron Lords chapter (theres a pic of one of their termies in the codex)

beyond that, i am partial to Raven Guard marines (as theyre my primary force), but i think that in a deathwatch army, some Iron Snakes, Silver Skulls and the like would look pretty good.

Yeah, I'm definitely wanting to do a bunch of the lesser-known chapters for the Tactical Marines - Scythes of the Emperor, Lamenters, Doom Eagles, Brazen Claws - Silver Skulls and Iron Snakes would be good, too.

I would suggest looking at a list of the different chapters and decide which ones you like the best. It should not be that hard to find a list the chapters and their heraldry. Another suggestion, use this chance to mix squads. Such as having a squad made of the founding chapters, then another of the second founding, etc. I think that would look cool.

I'm definitely going to be doing the first suggestion you made - the second is an interesting one. I hadn't thought about it quite like that. One of the things I have been thinking of with the Deathwatch is that while I can imagine a sense of camaraderie, I can also imagine a lot of competition - picturing a Ravenwing Landspeeder crew trying to outperform a White Scars Landspeeder crew, etc.

hehe, you could have a squad, where there is a Dark Angels brother, and a Space Wolf under the same SGT.

but depending on the size of the force you're doing, you really should try and not repeat any chapters in the army, because most chapters dont send very many marines to the Ordo Xenos

That would be pretty funny. There's fluff that says that the Deathwatch recruits more heavily from some Chapters than others (Crimson Fists, Scythes of the Emperor, Ultramarines) that I might use more than one of, but in general, yeah, I plan on having as much diversity as possible in the army.

Since your doing an entire army I think the normal limitations of chapters being recruited should not be that big of an issue. So go ahead and have a really diverse army. And yes, a dark angel with a space wolf under a Ultramarine or Imperial fist sarg would be awesome.

Which Predator is it? if it's an Annihilator Pattern (Twin Linked Lascannons), make it Space Wolves, as they were the ones who invented it.

And why not make Tellion a "Counts as" Space Wolf Model? Would be cool to see Some grizzled old SW scout go off to the Deathwatch for a bit.

No Assaults or Termies? No Vanguards or Sternguards?

I thought you said this would be a fun list.

Also, I have long dreamed of making a full 2k point Deathwatch Army. Would take a lot of time though with the different colored shoulder pads me thinks. I wanted to do it from the original 9 Loyal Legions only though.
