First things first...

Years ago I went the "tackle box" route and it was very hard on my minis. Now that I am older and I am building an army from the ground up, I am investing time and money in a (relatively) high quality army and I am also becoming somewhat anal about their protection when not on the field of battle (i.e. I'm getting into the hobby much more than in years past).

With that said, the new Battlefoam pre-cut trays really do not address the oddly shaped AoBR standard boyz very well. I am NOT content to jam the boyz into the tiny little 72 troop tray holes. It's hard on da boyz .

I made a template from the top down for a tray that I believe can hold 48 total Ork AoBR boyz (44 for sure). But (and it is a big but) it will have to be a 2" tray. It will take up the space of two 72 space troop trays (that's 144 holes) just for 48 boyz.

I am asking anyone out there if they care and/or have or can think of a better way. Remember, I am approaching this as the looking for the BEST way to store and transport these models for those of us that want the best way to do it. Here is an image of my template. It measures 2x2 at it's longest sides and is set up for every AoBR pose without any conversions.

I'm not understanding the cut. That gray part is cut away, ie the hole?

Yes and it is top-down. I reckoned that was the best way to utilize space since the odd shaped things take up about 2" laying or standing.

Ah, now I see.

The only problem I see is that you waste a lot of space on top with the choppas and such being held up.

Yeah, I know but they don't "do" half inch trays so its two inches either way. Plus, depending on the pose, some of my axes are pretty high up there. Also, I'm trying to do this without toppers. In my BattleFoam cases, I find the toppers pretty annoying in general.

Curse me for thinking of cool poses first!

It's not your fault. All AOBR Orks look like they're smacking kites out of the sky. Easy for injection molding, hard for foam transport.

I've been stuffing my AoBR Slugga Boys into my GW case face down with their weapons sticking out. In fact, that was what Romeo suggested to me (and how he transports his Orks). They stay in prety well, and I don't have models bumping around, which is good enough for me.

In all fairness, Battlefoam can cut a 1" tray with 1 3/4" holes that accommodate 35 AoBR boyz. That seems to be the best way (for anyone that cares).

I don't see the tray on their sight but I received 2 in my Ork pack. Of course they have changed their trays so it is best to ask first.
