I am looking to try and increase my meltagun number in my IG army. I already made up some more plasmagunners using IG flamers and SM plasma pistols, but I really need to increase my meltaguns.

Unfortunately I do not have any spare SM meltaguns. So I am thinking of ways to convert some using the IG grenade launcher.


Has anyone done this? Is there any good way to do it? Do you need any other parts? Or just trim a GL and cut some meltagun looking grooves?

Stelek used IG Cadian flamers, trimming off the bottom-half of the muzzle of the flamer - so instead of that vaguely triangular shape, you just have a rectangular shape. I think he might have then rounded the bottom of it so that it ultimately looked like a really narrow melta barrel.

Yah, you can do it with flamers, and it looks awesome when you do it that way, but probably the best thing to do is just buy yourself some meltas somehow...

Find a chaos playing friend, take the metal melta barrels from the obliterators. Replace end of flamer with melta barrel.

Most of the flamers look like you could fill in the holes with GS and then cut straight lines in it and viola, meltas.

On the GW website somewhere, there is a blister pack of 5 Melta Guns for about £3.

Those have marine hands but it would be fairly easy to swap.

pfff, you can barely tell the difference from that angle. If they do have segments on the other sides of the fingers, just GS over them. Looks like a big glove or something. Paint it flesh, nobody knows.

Serioulsy, GS and plasticard. Its like all you need.

The way I did mine was with the metal melta bits and grenade launcher arms. Cut the grenade launcher off the hand and cut the hand and stock off the melta gun. Glue in the obvious manner.

I used flamer bits and the exhaust from the COD manufactorum, but I guess you could use the grenade launcher as a base as well; you'd just have to add the magazine on the gun itself, while mine use backpacks.
