Hi Guys, I been wanting a Black Templar Crudade army for a long time. But If I'm going to do there going to be all biggerized initates and neophytes. Migsula's legion and Tael's Emperor;s Sythes both being the inspiration to get off my can and finaly make some.

Pics:

He's based on an AOBR terminator with leg extension and bulking in Aves - Fixed thats been tinted with Windso Newton Pane's Grey oil Paint. Its great stuff: 4 hour work times, smooths and sands like a dream, bake it solid in 10 minutes with 40 watt bulb. I still need to sanding him in preparation for the work to come.

Not as expensive as you would think. I've been collecting bits for this for about two years now. The most time consuming and expensive part of true-scale are the terminator legs. I'll be sculpting my own legs and chest and using a mix of GW bits. Sculpting and converting my own legs will also add wsome much needed variety to the extremely limited poses that terminator legs offer.

Here's my perspective list:

Headquarters:

The High Marshal (Custom)
Command Squad: 14x Ten Initiate and four Neophytes (Scratchbuilt Land Raider + the High Marshal and )
Emperor's Champion (Custom / Vow: Accept any Challenge)
Chaplin w/ Accolytes (Counts as Cenobytes - custom sculpted)

Elites:

5x Terminators w/ 2 assault cannons (taken from the DA landspeeders - there huge)
5x Terminators w/ 2 assault cannons (taken from the DA landspeeders - there huge)
1x Venerable Dreadnought w/ Assault cannon & DCCW in a Drop Pod (Up scaled, ofcourse)

Troops:

15x Ten Initiate and five Neophytes (Scratchbuilt Land Raider)
10x Ten Initiate (Scratchbuilt Rhino)
10x Ten Initiate (Scratchbuilt Rhino)
10x Ten Initiate (Scratchbuilt Rhino)
10x Ten Initiate (Scratchbuilt Rhino)

Fast:

10x Assault Squad
10x Bike squad (5 will be Neophytes for Fluff sake)

Heavy:

2 x Vindicators
? Hmmm...must consult the blessed Codex further...

I'm currently working on converting my remaining four AOBR terminator leg sets and modified torso this today. So, expect the first squad of resin and plastic marines tomorrow.

Cheers!

Well...been a while...

So, I took today off from working on my other little project to work on this guy. He's only a test model so their several things I'm considering chainging about him. But I want to get some objective input before making changes.

As always crit are greatly appreciated. So, what do you think: likes, dislikes?

Well Something about the way his head and neck area is orientated seems off. I imagine there being more armor around his neck, I also think you might need to bulk up their chest plating a bit more. Just something to think about...

The bowl cut looks dumb.
Body and legs look good to me though...
And the neck is a little long.

"I.. I know my time has come" Tethesis said with a gasp, a torrent of blood flowing from his lips.
"No! Hang on brother!!" Altharius could feel the warmth slip away from his dear sibling's hands

Tethesis's reached out his bloodied arm to Altharius's face.
"I..I have one final request"
Altharius leaned close to listen, tears welling in his once bright eyes.
"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"
"Yes, you're gonna be the most fethin' cool tank!!" burning hot tears streaked down Altharius's face, as he held his brother's soul in his grasp.

Id say change the head,it doesnt suit a battle hardened killing machine, which is what a marine should be. Other than that i think it looks great

The head is too monkish and goofy looking. I picture the Black Templars as foaming at the mouth veins popping on the forehead red faced sweating with zeal fanatical Crusaders, not monkish looking dudes.

Okay I substituted a new head...

So what to yall think of him now?

I now think that the chest armor needs bulking out.

Is the that a Green Stuff molded coil of rope cos it looks exactly like the one in the Scouts set? But man, this is awesome though I wouldn't change the head to a helmet but to a bare head (just not the bowl cut one).

Looks great, I have to try one of these...
The only thing that needs bulking up is the chest.

I reckon a piece of plasticard between the chest and arm, then sculpted with GS till is smooth again, should do the trick. You've made the shoulders broader, but the chest is no more broad, which looks odd.

I actually liked the first head more. I think the monk-esque look fits in well with the theme of the templars and reminds me of some monk or knight from the crusades.

Jon Kerr:

You're absolutely correct regarding the chest and torso. I've back and sculpted the torso, legs, feet and arms from scratch using styrene tubes and aves sculpting putty. Making a fresh start is the only way to do it right. Terminator legs are expensive and...well just impossible to pose dynamically. So, I went back to basics using Forgeworlds, large scale marine sculpt as my reference.

On my new model the: legs, feet, torso, arms, hands and head are all seperate pieces. To make it far easier to get good poses. Once I get the parts all sanded and pretty I'll make a waste mold of the parts, and make some basic running, crouching, and leaping poses, etc. I'll ten build some quality molds to cast those poses. The obly original GW parts will be the weapons, heads, back packs, and equipment bits.

I'm not sure what mark it is but I'm basing the armor off Emperor's Champion and the Jump Pack Chaplin. I'll be posting some progress up on them soon, I've just been concentrating on my Slaanesh Daemon Army as of late.

Topographic Oceans:
I was kind of partial to that head as well. But I'll be using Flagellant heads for the few un-helmeted marines in the crusade.

Backdraft005:

All Truescale? Very necessary! I've only seen it done once, and lets face it if you want an uniquire marine army, 100 towering armored giants is the way to do it. Wait to you see my plans for the terminators, scratch built rhinos and crusaders. For me the modeling aspect of the hobby is the most challenging and satisfying part of the hobby. I play the game for fun.

Very impressive, I admire your dedication.
I tell you what mate- you make a mould of your scratch built marines, and I'll buy a few off you if you'll sell some!

Can't wait to see the new guys. An all truescale army would be Epic.... and if you can do them so that they could all be cast (terminators included) you'd be on to a winner....

random question-is the triple pouch from the tactical squad sprue? youve used it on the back, next to the GS rope.

cheers

By all means go for it. I just think its too much trouble, but obviously if you pull it off, it'll look awesome.

Head's just in fine my opinion - I'd like to see you try to make the backpack larger and the sword smaller...

Amen brother!

I'm heading there myself, though with a little (OK, more than a little!) help from my friends...

I'm also VERY interested to see what your plans are for Truescale Rhinos, as that's something I'll need to get building as well!

"Too much trouble" being relative, of course.

wow is by all accountt he only thing I can ever say when looking at sersis work.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Damn, another awesome scuplted army. You are the man Sersi!

One thing though about that marine: his pose with his weapons is too open. I don't quite understand what his body language in relation to his arms is supposed to be conveying. He has a large (and nicely made!) two handed sword, and is holding it in such a fashion that he will not be able to bring it to bear for any purpose quickly. He then has a pistol that is pointed down and off to the side, and is further rotated 90 degrees with the sights pointing away from him.
Essentially, he is standing palms up and shrugging. That might work if you were going for the "Oh, do you want some of this!?" sort of pose, but then you would need the sword arm to be extended instead of cocked in as it is.

Personally, if you are looking for that "purposefully striding forward, not to kill just this second, but ready to strike or defende" sort of pose, rotate the sword wrist such that the sword crosses in front of him, preferably with the blade passing between his eyes, or at the lowest in front of his left shoulder. I would also rotate his pistol such that the sights are pointed forward or across his body a bit more.

As to the heads, I kind of prefer the helmet, but the other looked pretty cool too, so long as you aged it a little in the painting steps.
