Well just found out that I have exceeded the number of semesters to maintain eligibility for financial aid. It is completely my fault since I was an idiot during my earlier years. I am currently seeking outside assistance (scholarships, internships, etc...), but since I spend an excessive amount of time on the forums I thought I would ask you guys for ideas.

Already planning on getting a part-time job and doing it the right way, but a poll never hurts.

It depends on how much your tuition is. I was in the same situation my senior year, but my tuition costs were so exorbitant that any employment I could have expected to get would have been worthless. In the end I had to take out some private loans in order to make it through. Paying for it now though, since they are refusing to defer repayment while I attend grad school.

When you say financial responsibility do you mean loans as well? The other option is work full time and go to school part time.

If you have one semester left it would be stupid to give up now.

It's always worth asking your parents for help and if you do, be prepared to buckle down and work hard. Parents' patience tends to run out when their children sponge off them and don't make the effort themselves.

Don't work lots of part-time jobs because you need some time and energy for studying. Frazzled's idea of working full-time and completing the course in part-time study is worth considering. I did my management degree part-time at evening classes while working a proper full-time job, it's hard work but you will probably only need to do one year. (It made me wonder what full-time students do all day.)

I'm in the process of contacting Financial Aid and seeing about getting an appeal or something. I've busted my eligibility because of the number of semesters I've attended. I've only used loans for 6 of my 12 semesters so I'm hoping that I get that one extra semester in. Wish me luck.

I'll have around $2000 in tuition expenses, but the kicker was the usually expected left over loans we get was going to be used while my life was off work while recovering. We talked today and she is really upset. Upset, pregnant woman is a bad, bad thing .

I hate to be that guy who talks about 'my day', but $2000 is not that bad. I had to come up with 30k for my senior year with something like 3 weeks notice. Get a campus job, take out a private loan, or borrow some money from a relative. I wouldn't go the part-time student route if you have a significant amount of non-government debt built up. Its unlikely that part-time attendance will earn your a deferment, so you'll likely have to use up some forbearance; assuming you even get that.

Go talk to ur couns. there is a form you can fill out to extend ur financial aid if you have surpassed the max units attempted.
