Umm, why isn't there one for warhammer fantasy? Seems a little odd.

Wrong? Take a look.

On another not, Dakka Dakka doesn't give much love to WHFB.

Hate to break it to you... but there is. Just got put up in the last week, due to general discussion being so full of 40k discussion threads. Fantasy doesn't have enough discussion threads to need its own discussion section.

The Warhammer 40k General Discussions is a new forum. The standard General Discussions forum was getting a great deal of 40k-specific traffic, so Yakface (who owns DakkaDakka) decided to add a Warhammer 40k specific General Discussions forum just for this sort of thing.

There are several reasons why Warhammer Fantasy doesn't seem to get as much attention on Dakka Dakka as 40k. Dakka started out with a 40k focus, and even today the traffic in the Fantasy sections is much lower than the 40k sections. Overall 40k is more popular, at least as far as sales go. Space Marines alone outsell all of Warhammer Fantasy (or so we've heard).

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

If simply creating new forums was the key to 'giving love' (increasing posts and traffic) to different games, then I would absolutely create a thousand forums dedicated to every single game out there.

However, making a new forum doesn't actually tend to increase traffic or posts, but can often have the opposite effect, in that attention can get splintered between forums and discussion can actually end up faltering.

We added the general 40K discussion forum because general 40K discussion was starting to fill up this forum (which is supposed to be about general gaming discussion).

For whatever reason, general Fantasy discussion hasn't been as pervasive in the Dakka Discussions forum and as such doesn't warrant a separate forum. If that kind of discussion starts to dominate Dakka Discussions then I will absolutely create a general Fantasy discussion forum, but until there is a driving need for that forum you can just use this Dakka discussions forum as a place to discuss general Fantasy topics.

I feel that we need one, purely because there aren't many active Fantasy forums out there.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

And there's a reason, because the game isn't anywhere near as popular.

If we got Fantasy chatter here all the time there'd be one, like Yakface just said, but there's not so there isn't.

The only reason it isn't considered popular is that most 40K players tend to be younger (12-25 generally), which also explains why Spase Marienz (hurr!) sell so well.

If the post volume gets high enough, then yeah it'll probably get a forum.

We didn't have a Rules Proposal forum until people filled the other forums up with
possible rules.

Lamezor, only reason Fantasy doesn't gets pushed as much is 'cause GW push 40k more. I like both games, but Fantasy is superior, an actual tactical game.

I would love nothing more than to have all wargames equally represented on this site. But again, people are fickle and they like to visit forums that they're used to and they know have good discussion about X game, so it is hard to get the reputation that Dakka is a '40K forum' broken.

So with that in mind, I see you only have 7 posts so far. Hopefully you will jump into the WHFB forums with wild abandon and create good quality discussion that will drive more and more people to want to come to Dakka to discuss the game.

Yet isn't it maybe a 'build it and they will come' kind of thing were if we have a forum such as 'WHFB discussion"
we would get more post and sight traffic relating to that certain topic.

Unfortunately that's not how forums tend to work (trust me, I can see which pages get what kind of traffic).

The more forums you make the more people tend to get fragmented and don't see certain things and therefore don't post.

The less forums a site has the more discussion there tends to be, although threads get pushed off the front page very quickly so detailed discussions are few and far between.

It really is a balancing act of trying to keep as few forums as needed while still providing the organization needed so that people can find the discussion they're looking for.

Ok I see,but answering Backdrafts question I think as I see others have posted, that :

A.There are not enough posts to warrant a new forum

and

B.That even though we have at least a small WHFB community it is a bit hard to shake the idea that Dakka is seen as a 40k forum so not many new people who are WHFB players join as they see this more as a 40k discussion site.
