in the ork codex the deff dread comes with two dccw but you also must buy two of the upgrades so in theory can you but two more dccw and have 4 all together

Yes, yes you can! It's a very good thing to give a Dread 6 attacks!

Yes, correct.
Don't forget that the Attacks on the Dreads profile does not include the bonus one for 2 DCCW (not a bloody word guys, the bit in the FAQ is a House rule, it isn't in the Errata, so it does NOT count), so a Deff Dread with 4 DCCW will have 3 (base) +3 (For three DCCW above the first) attacks.

I'd think about going with one extra DCCW and a Skorcha. You want to be Running and not shooting, so I think the long-range weapons are out. The Skorcha is a nice addition and helps thin the hordes out.

To the OP - ignore Gwar! The FAQ is pretty clear about how many attacks a Dread armed with 3 or 4 DCCWs gets (4 and 5 respectively), so if it's armed with only 2 DCCW, it must only get 3.

I don't know how you can argue with a straight face that just because it's in the FAQ doesn't mean it's official. If you play that way, you might as well ignore the main rulebook and your codex as well.

Wait hasn't this been discussed ad nauseum with me threatening people, others storming off in ahuff etc.? Seriously-can someone enlighten me before I incorrectly close this thread?

I argue with a straight face because by the FAQ's by their own addition are not official, only the errata is.

Would you like proof? Ok!

The Errata have the same level of 'authority' as the main rules, as they effectively modify the published material. They are 'hard' material. It is a good idea to read them and be aware of their existence, but luckily there are very few of them for each book.

The FAQs on the other hand are very much 'soft' material. They deal with more of a grey area, where often there is no right and wrong answer - in a way, they are our own 'Studio House Rules'.

So yeah, playing it with 5 attacks is actually incorrect if you play by the rules, m'kay? So yeah, perhaps I'll use the stuff with the same authority as the main rules, rather than some half baked "Studio House Rules".

Ok, this has been beat to death but it comes down to this.

1) Pure RAW without consulting the FAQ it is 6 attacks as Gwar said. Play it this way as you like.

2) Go by the GW faq, which most players do regardless of them being studio house rules, and it will have 5 attacks.

Most people do use the GW FAQ to handle rules questions so most people will probably not like you playing as if it had 6 attacks, but the choice is yours. You have both sides of the argument so you can choose from there.

Ya mean like the by-laws that state "Don't tell the Mods what to do?"

As long as you don't try to take the bottle out of my hand we're ok, else its not going to go well for you

Closing though. I think that summary's a perfect point of the two positions.
