The Set up: We are playing with 4 objectives, one behind the green building, one you can see on the small hill to the upper right, one in the forest that's behind the green building and swarming with nids and the final one is right in front of my Battle Wagon in the trench system in the lower center of the picture.

Jason was first player, so he set up first.

Jason was playing two Hive tyrants, 5 carnifexes, 4 Warriors, and a ton of spine gaunts.

I was playing Three Battle Wagons ( one with Kill Kannon, one with 2 big shootaz and one with 4 rocket Lanchers, a Zapp Gun and Deth rolla). I had 2 2o man Shoota boyz squads in the wagons with out the Kill Kannon and a 10 man lootaz Squad in the Wagon with Kannon. My Big Mek with KFF was chilling with the Lootaz, I also had a min burner squad with 3 meks with big shootas and had 3 squadrons of 2 dethkopters(with Rokkits) each. I also I had two min squads of Grotz in reserves.

I failed to sieze the inititive and Jason got first turn, he rushed my trio of Wagons, fired a lot of Venom Cannon and Barbed Strangers at my army and did no damage.

I then Shot the begeezus out of a Carnifex, wounds another Fex and killed a bunch of guants.

Now Jason made what I felt was the big mistake of the game on his part, after seeing the shooting fire power I was leveling at him, he balked and retreated his forces. Sending only a duo of Carnfexes and a Twin Devourer Tyrant after me, while waiting for his Out flanking Genestealers to show up.
If he pushed the assault, I think I would have lost.

This pict was taken at the end of his shooting phase, before his Carnifex and Genestealers assaulted.

Jason Made short work of the Deth Kopters once he realized how hard it is to pop battle wagons that are covered by a KFF.

here is where I made a game play mistake, you can see the burna squad in the lower right hand of the picture, I wanted to move them someplace they could torch the stealers or lure them into assaulting the Burna Boyz, but I moved them too close to the battle Wagon and both units ended up getting charged. The Burna where wiped out and the Wagon shaken.
Maybe the Burnas soaked enough attacks to mitigate the damage to the Wagon, but I really was sad to see both units get hit by the stealers.

I seem to have not taken any pictures at this point in the game, so what happened was that besides the Stealers, one of his carnifex charged my Deth rolla wagon and shook and immobilized it. So on my turn the 20 shoota boys in side piled out and shot and assault the fex, while the grot rigger fixed the immobilized result. My Kill Kannon Wagon drove forward, as it was shaken. the other wagon shot up some spine gaunts and the boyz helped shooting the Fex.

The next turn I realized I need to move if I was going to win this game, so The Deth rolla cruised up toward the objective on the wooded hill, while the last deth copter tried to hide behind it. My Shoota killed the Carnifex they charged.

This is Turn 5, my dethrolla wagon just drove over the Hive Tyrant and killed it, while also killing two warriors. Go battle Wagon!

My boyz get in an other scrap with a Fex, this time after it charged and destroyed my Kannon Wagon and Pinned the lootas inside.! My grotz show up from reserve and hold my home base objective.

An other angle on the action!

Jason Charged his Guants that where holding his home objective in to the melee where my boyz where kacking down an other Fex, not realizing the mistake there. The Guants allowed me to easily pump my assaut score as they where much easier to wound then the fex, then allowing my combat results do "fearless" wounds to both units. but while I killed 8 of the 20 or so gaunts, I was not killing them fastenought, so when my lootas recovered from being pinned, I charged them into the combat, figuing they are orks and should be able to whipe the guant unit while my Shoota boys try for the last two wounds on the fex. So my lootaz charged, the guants struck first at I4 and out of 8 attacks he caused 6 wounds killing all the lootaz but one. :(
The one loota however caused two wounds, my shootaz coused another 4 to the guants and 3 to the fex, winning me that round. After fearless caualities I htink there was four gaunt in that squad when the game ended.

The Game ends at turn 6.

I drove my Deth rolla wagon around the corner to contect the objective behind the build, controlled my home objective and Jason controlled the objective on the wooded hill.

I think if the game went to turn 7 I could have won.

oh, and some lessons on Battle Wagons. All my wagons run stock with Grot Riggers, armor plates and reinforce Ram (or deth rolla). I shouldn't have had the Lootaz in a Kannon Wagon, as the shoot range and mobility of Ordinance does not synergize with the long range and desire to not move that the Lootaz have. Also A deth Rolla is really neat but does not pair up well with lots of Primary weapons (1 Zapp gun and 4 Rockets). In the future, I'll have the deth rolla Wagon rock a kannon and big shoota, and I'll stick burners, Shooty Nobs, or Tank Bustaz in the Kannon Wagon.

you bet to say this Ninjaray. IMO you shouldn't move a wagon that loaded with lootas in more that 6" in order to unlesh the crazy deffgun fire, which mean is don't put it to the frontline if lootaz on board. and, i suggest your lootas to stay in well distance ground to provide supporting fire instead of charging and crushin' bugs while riding with wagon. ('cause that is lootas'main purpose.) Lootas should be capable to deal with this such of lighty armored units.

Of course, deffRolla and ranger weapons serves in completely different role. Deffrolla required a full speed charge to allot a best damage to enemy unit(s) since it's a tank shock. i do use this kind of upgrade on my wagon in my own list, but just equipped with Kannon since it can be fired while moved 6".

Hope you understand what i saying...

I had the lootaz charge into the melee because I thought it would swing the combat, however they had nothing in LOS as well, so I count really shoot with them. Tank Bustas would have been a great replacement for them in this battle, but hind sight is 20/20.

Cool report. I've been debating whether to put my Lootas inside Battlewagons. I think the IG codex is finalizing that thought.

Sadetta: If I understand your post regarding moving the Battlewagon and Lootas. If the Battlewagon moves at all, the Lootas can not fire as they count as moving as well.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

I had a lot of fun in the game. I made two critical errors in the game. 1. I should have given my Heavy Support Carnifexs Extended Carapace +2 Save. This would have helped them from taking the mass gun fire. 2. Since I picked deployment zone, I was able to capture 3 of the 4 objectives in the firts turn. There was no need for me to charge out in the open and get shot to pieces.

I also should of ues the "Going to Ground" for my gaunts holding the objectives.

@wolfeman: the Death Rolla is off the old "Mage Knight" Steam Tank.

I picked up one years ago and thought it would work well and a stand in battle wagon. Now that I see how useful the parts are I just picked up three more for cheap

@redeemer40k: I had a great time with the game, I think you could have tabled me if you rushed me. I couldn't stop everything and your Fexes almost overwhelmed me, if you had sent everything at me you would have crushed me.

Love the mage knight steam tanks, as well as the heroscape trees for terrain. ha!

As far as gameplay goes, I don't like to mount lootas in a battlewagon, I know it gives them a lot of protection, but I don't know if 135+ points is worth protecting the lootas, just try and get em into cover, even if they don't get to fire every turn, they have the psychological effect to deny your opponent some movement lanes.

A hard fought game on both sides. I'd probably pop a blood vessel if I was going against double tyrants and 5!!! carnifexes, whew.

Lootaz in BWs really help the unit. It's much more durable and immune to morale tests while embarked. Plus the biggest thing is that you trace LOS from anywhere on the Hull, meaning all shoots are fired from that point, where as when they are on foot, a lot of times the cover I placed them in limits the number of models that have LOS, lowering there effective firing. I think the price of the Battle wagon is fine.
