Busy somewhere, airin' out the skin jobs.

New Space marine Ironclad looks awesome.

It made me wonder though....the 6xDreadnought (Drop Pod?) lists....anyone try them?

Anyone experienced whether or not these lists are any good...besides within theoryhammer that is?

I have never failed to seize on 4+ in my life!

Witnessed a game last night with 5 drop-pod ironclads in a 1500 list. (Rest of list was 2 Land Speeder Storms, 2 5-man scout squads, and a master of the forge w/ conversion beamer).

The ironclads are hard to stop if you're not expecting them, but the cost, including the cost of the pods, means that your non-dread stuff is at a minimum. They tarpit easily in assault (a unit of 10 sisters held a dread up all game, and should have killed it, but the player never rolled more than a 2 on the vehicle damage chart from his multiple eviscerator swings).

Add to that, if I see my opponent running 5 or 6 podding ironclad dreads, I'm going to keep all my stuff in reserve and make him commit to the table before I come on. That really reduces the amount of damage that they can do.

6 Dread lists are fun, and mildly competitive. If your opponent isn't prepared for them, they might be in trouble, especially if they rely on just a few, really powerful units (bikers, land raiders, etc). They smack the majority of daemon lists around, as the only things that can really take them out are Greater Daemons and Fiends.

The support for the Dreads is key though. Since a 5-6 dread list really only has one slot open in E/H at most, you need to think carefully about what areas really need help. For me, it's long-range firepower, focusing on anti-Horde, as horde lists will tie up dreads like nobody's business. This means my support includes ML/F tac squads in HB razorbacks and Typhoons with HB. You may want to include a decent amount of plasma for taking down those MCs that can really wallop a dread in CC, even Ironclads.

Dreads really excel in two areas - one, taking down tanks at short range/cc, and two, trying up or walloping small expensive squads, especially if they don't have fists/rending. They are decent against units like Nobs and Terminators, though they will likely get destroyed in the end. But their low number of attacks (even Ironclads, really) means that they'll struggle against a lot of units to actually DO something in CC.

Wouldn't it just be better to run four and save those points for other key units? I've never run more than two dreadnaughts.

If it aint on BoLS it's not real. Simple.

Speaking of Ironclad models, Bleh I say, BLEH! I've made my own out of a Right Handed Claw and a Grey Knights Blade CCW from Forge world and I'll be damned if I'll not use it for some crappy GW model

thats a bit of a narrow view on rumours there... the CAD images have been out for a while and these latest images are like the CAD ones and taken from the planetstrike book..., anyway warseer rumours are just as good

and its all right for people to make their own, thats your choice, but some of us arent as good at kit bashing
