So with about nine months between games a buddy and I decided to dust off our Heavy Gear minis and play another Blitz game.
This time with played with full objectives and set up rules (not just a straight up brawl) to try to digest more of the rulebook.
We got more right than wrong (we think!) and friday we'll have a rematch.
Here's how it all went down....
Northern Guard - PL2
G.P. Squad with 2 Snub Cannons
Infantry Platoon with 4 Anti-Gear Rifles
Aller MBT
Airborne Squad with 2 Jaguars, 2 Cheetah Paras, 1 Hunter Para, Army Commander
Support Options - Reserves,
HAAC Turret, extra
CPs
Objectives: Defend - Scout (1), Hold the Line (3), Take and Hold (2)
Peace River - PL2
G.P. Squad (Warriors?)
Infantry Platoon with
HK Drone, Rifle Grenades
Strike Squad with Cheetah, Cobra, 2 Warrior 4's (One RFB), Cataphract
Alpha Dog with Satellite Uplink
Support Options - Infiltrate, Airstrike (Fighter Bomber), extra
CPs
Objectives: Standard - Protect his Leader, Kill my Leader, Recon my GP Squad
Deployment - Facing (1/3 onto the table)
The first turn of the game saw my Aller get damaged beyond reckoning by a Demo charge from the Peace River Infantry who infiltrated right up to it, and the escorting infantry platoon get mauled by the
HK drone (ouch!).
My Airborne arrived right away on my target take and hold hill, which unfortunately also served as the forward cover for the enemy's strike squad. A massive firefight breaks out...
My GPs risked crossing the open towards their Peace River counterparts hunkered down behind the abandoned Arcology...
The intervention of the Strike Squad's Cobra and his VHAC ended the flanking gambit that might have dislodged the GPs.
Forward observed by the Cheetah in the strike squad; the Aller is destroyed by combined fire from the Cataphract's
ATMs and the AGM launcher on the Alpha Dog.
The main threat to serious armour having been eliminated, the Strike Squad wipes out half the Airborne as the duel devolves into a slug-match. The North infantry advance and forward observe their Scout target only to be wiped out by the Cobra. The two remaining squads in the platoon finish off the Peace River infantry.
My GP squad is down to the Headhunter who ends up in close combat with the Chieftain of the Peace River GPs. Neither one damages the other.
The Airborne simply cannot win a war of attrition against the Strikes and begin to withdraw to my deployment zone for a last stand.
In the final turn of the game I've managed to hold Dosadi out of my deployment zone. His Airstrike continues to harass me and my Army commander is on the run from the almost undamaged Strike squad.
That being said, my Headhunter breaks from combat with the opposing GP and Forward Observes the scout objective for a consecutive turn.
FINAL RESULTS
Peace River Victory at 80% objective completion over my 66%
We learned a lot from the game and hopefully the next one will be super smooth.
