Still waiting on bits orders to come in so I'm still having to proxy my melta guns, and a few other things, but the demolisher conversions are complete as are the devil dogs. Hopefully I can get some paint on them and then start taking pics again.

Mission: Annihilation
Deployment: Spearhead

IG win the role and choose to go first. I choose the southwest corner, he gets the northeast.
The table is set up as a city terrain. There is a big building right in the corner of my deployment zone towards the center. I line up tanks on either side of it and behind it. So each "side" has a melta quad, demolisher, devildog, the psykers go in the middle, and the banewolf goes all the way up 24" in a flanking position

The marines split their forces with 2 rhino's covering the 2 predators next to the table edge as far north as they can go. The vindi, dreadnaught, sammael, and the other tac squad set up on the southeast side of his deployment zone. The bikers go to the north and scout move into the northwest quarter.

IG Turn #1
I move a bit, boost the banewolf 18" straight at the bikers and pop smoke. I shoot a lot and he makes all of his cover saves (there was a lot of building terrain all over the place).
Kill Points IG:0 Space Marines:0

Marines Turn #1
He moves the rhino's up behind where the bikes were in the northwest quarter. Moves the southern troops and vindi up. He stuns the devildog in the northeast quad, the multi-melta hit is saved by my smoke.
Kill Points IG:0 Space Marines:0

IG Turn #2
I flame and shoot a lot at the ravenwing killing all but the attack bike. I then decide to try to weaken resolve and realise that sammael's rites of battle effectively negate weaken resolve. He makes all the cover saves on the rest of his vehicles.
Kill Points IG:1 Space Marines:0

Marines Turn #2
His marines stay in their vehicles and shoot their heavy weapons destroying the banewolf. The attack bike moves up and melta's the executioner, getting a stunned result. He blows the turret off of my northwest demolisher.
Kill Points IG:1 Space Marines:1

IG Turn #3
The devildog in the southwest blows up the dreadnaught. I put a ton of shots into the last attack bike, finally taking it down.
Kill Points IG:3 Space Marines:1

Marines Turn #3
He moves up his marines on the northwest side to get in melta range, and they knock the multi-laser off of a chimera and shake one of the devildogs.
Kill Points IG:3 Space Marines:1

IG Turn #4
The CCS pops a rhino full of marines, the executioner then gets 17 hits on the squad killing all but one. The turretless demolisher pop's the other northwest rhino pinning the squad. I ram the ac predator w/ a devildog and immobilize it the predator shakes my devildog.
Kill Points IG:5 Space Marines:1

Space Marines Turn #4
The lone space marine kills 3 imperial guardsmen and then dies to my sergeants chainsword. He shakes one of the devil dogs, and rips the turret off of another one.
Kill Points IG:6 Space Marines:1

IG Turn #5
My demolisher finally blows up the vindicator (they traded shots for the entire game). My vets blow up the master of the ravenwing and the ccs zooms up and gets out and fries the predator. The executioner gets 15 hits on the previously pinned space marines killing all but 1, who fails leadership and runs off the table.
Kill Points IG:10 Space Marines:1

Space Marines Turn #5
HIs last tac squad gets out of their rhino in the southeast side and assault the demolisher and a devildog. The devil dog blows up and the demolisher is immobilized.
Kill Points IG:10 Space Marines:2

IG Turn #6
The ccs blows up the other predator. I get the tac squad down to just the sergeant but he just won't die. And blow up their rhino.
Kill Points IG:12 Space Marines:2

Space Marines Turn #6
The sergeant blows up the demolisher, thus ending the game.
Kill Points IG:12 Space Marines:3

Aftermath
So he was running a pretty generic Space Marine list with a little of everything. The rites of battle from dark angels commanders is now huge because of weaken resolve, that and the master kept the psykers locked down the whole game. I think he was too timid in general. He should have bum rushed me with his marines, krak grenades will take out tanks and thats what he needed to do. Once he started failing cover saves everything started going down hill. The exeuctioner finally got to shoot at it's intended target killing 16 marines over the course of the game, it was mostly on target for the two turns it got to shoot at disembarked marine. The imperial armor slowly advanced to midfield and then stopped and shot a LOT. That seems to be the way it plays out for the last couple of games. It's a slow crushing advance. The devildog ram for 15 inch's into the side of the predator was funny tho! I now know how the eldar players feel.

Nice win...

Properly handled...

Remember that ravenwing bikers are fearless as well. So not even without rites of battle could you have gotten them.

His list sounded very battleforce-y. But a 9-1 KP win with IMPERIAL GUARD should be a notable feat in any circumstance. Nice list. Nice generalship.

Whoops my numbers were a little off towards the end. But it ended up 12-3. Which for guard is huge.

Forgot about them being fearless, I was just excited about the fact that the dark angels seem to have gotten a little bit of a boost because of the rites of battle on their commanders.

I had told him ahead of time I was going to be playing guard, but he didn't know if I run mechanized or foot so he was trying to build something general.

He's really wanting a go at the army with his doublewing now. I may have to find some time to make it down to that store and give him a re-match.

My psykers did the most damage they've done in a game yet, they killed a space marine .

Just wait till you play orks... the psykers will do a bit more then

As for dark angels... I recently wrote up a list that I think is really quite good. It shares some similarities with Stelek's "best of" space marines, but uses 3x1 bikers with 2x meltas and singleton MM attack bikes as troop choices.

I wouldn't hijack the thread here by posting the list, and I don't believe in the army list section here, at least with a completely unplayed theoretical list. But just as soon as I can get some games in with it, It'll appear in the batreps section.

Your buddy can certainly make a good list from dark angels in this new heavily mechanized meta, especially if horde orks get pushed down a bit. But I'd recommend staying away from tanks that want to get close like vindicators, they get melta-ized, he should use speeders and attack bikes and possibly some dreadnoughts with something at least 36" range on it.

12-3, man warmaster, were you able to collect his tears at the end of the match?

I actually like the odds of a full up mech dark angels list. Funnily enough it's because they can take a 5 man squad with a special weapon, unlike normal marines. That and the rites of battle will really help them out. Fearless bikes and terminators doesn't hurt either. A well geared dark angles army will shred a guard army that is relying too much on battle psykers.

It's wierd, not much damage was caused in the first few turns, the kill points crept up fast in the later rounds. I am starting to wonder why I have all the infantry models tho. I think 15 infantry models actually got out of their vehicles during the entire game.
