Deepstriking: The rulebook says that deepstriking units must be in Base to base contact when deepstriking. A valkyrie is bigger than its base however. How do you handle deepstriking valkyries in a squadron?

I was going to ask about hitting valks with blast weapons (Over the hull or the base) but thats not a big issue. I would assume that a valk is a walking ordinance magnet.

Vehicle Squadrons are not exempt from the Base-to-base deeptstrike rules. HOwever, it seems impossible to actiually get Vlaks/Vens into btb with each other.

I suggest you talk to your opponent before hand, and try to get him to agree with the hulls just touching, rather than the bases.

As for shooting at the Valk/Ven...it is always to the hull not the base, just as movement is, including blasts.

Personally, unless you have a huge table, however, it will be near impossible to DS a Valk/Ven squadron without landing on something, due to their size.

Read the rules for skimmers on page 71, it says that you make measurements to and from the hull except for when assaulting the skimmer and when the skimmer is firing a weapon.

As such, I think the Valks would only need to be placed 'hull to hull' so to speak.

yakface's 40K rule #1: Although the rules allow you to use modeling to your advantage, how badly do you need to win your toy soldier games?
yakface's 40K rule #2: Friends don't let friends start a MEQ army.
yakface's 40K rule #3: Codex does not ALWAYS trump the rulebook, so please don't say that!

That may be true, but the rules for deep striking are not asking to measure anything, but are asking to place in "Base to base" contact. As the Valkyrie Has a base, it must be in Base to base, not Hull to Hull.

Of Course, this is yet ANOTHER situation where GW have proven to be utterly inept at writing anything, so the best thing to do is Clear it up Pre Game.

The vehicle squadron rules are terrible in general--hopefully the new IG codex will prompt them to clarify how these units operate.
