I was checking out news and rumors....

i clicked on the "near future 28 mm weapons sprue" thread (I can't remember if I only clicked on it or if I clicked on a link in the post) and my computer went crazy.

Multiple pages (70+) started opening up on my computer. I immediately turned off the wireless connection...but pages kept opening wit hthe IE "cannot show page" notification. So, I turned off the computer as well.

Each page was also accompanied by a "page may contain danger" notice from my computer.

I use a Vist OS with IE and Kaspersky for security.

I scanned the comp and Kaspersky found 4 vulnerabilities but no viruses. Even with that I have no idea how all the pages kept opening up. Kaspersky protected the comp but had i not cut the connection and turned the comp off my compuetr may have crashed from all the blank pages that were being opened.

I contacted YakFace and he knows about the situation.

I hope no one else has had any problems.

Have only bumped this up as i think this is beneficial to any users surfing the net. I had an issue with virus's in the past concerning the clicking of links (though this was not via the dakka website)

Since then I have downloaded three programs called Malewearbytes, AVG and spybot. All three are made by "I think the term is freelance" programers and are therefore free to download and are regularly updated and they also keep an eye on your web browser too, increasing your security and I haven't noticed a drop in PC performance.

This has stopped several virus attempts since, but I've also been a lot more careful about links i click.

@ender502, I hope you've cleared those viruses

This is on top of my main anti-virus software such as McAfee and previously Norton which i no longer use.

Dakka does not allow any third party advertiser code other than google, the rest just use static links and images. We dont allow any scripting in any forms either so the chances of dakka ever giving you a virus are incredibly remote. I keep a very close eye on server security and know whenever anything happens so there is no risk there as if we were ever hacked the first thing I would do is take the site offline and move to a new server.

hellsguardian316 is probably correct in assuming it is another virus, a link hijacking attack or other non-dakka related source. I would strongly recommend not using IE at all, and instead install firefox (it will import all your bookmarks happily as well). download it free from http://www.getfirefox.com

AVG is also a good product to use if you are on windows and is also free.
