With the plastic steam tank coming out i will be glady adding it to my my empire. But i'm wondering what are its uses? Is it point and kill, or is it entirely different? So if anyone could post on its uses and tactics it would be greatly appreciated.

Its uses are several.

Tarpit: get it into combat and as long as it isn't fighting against high strength opponents it isn't going anywhere.

Terror causers: 'nuff said.

Extra Cannon: Would normally only get off 1 or 2 shots a game but allows an extra cannon to give more flexibility.

Rank and file crusher: Excells at doing burnouts directly on top of rank and file troops who (usually) are very unlikely to hurt it in return.

Fire Magnet: Absorbs a horrendous amount of fire from your opponent, allowing the rest of the force through.

Don't forget Points Denial!

As it's a warmachine your opponent only gets points for destroying it totally, no points for taking it to 50% wounds! (personally I think this is a bit silly but it was officially faq'd by GW that this was indeed the way to play it so....)

When using a Steam Tank don't forget that it's the only unit in the game that actually gets worse as it is damaged, as this reduces the amount of Steam Points the Tank can generate safely. A Steamtank that has lost only 3 wounds is already fairly useless on the battlefield except as a Terror causer and table quarter claimer.

While inexperienced opponents might scream "CHEESE!!" at the Steam Tank it is IMO not really that dangerous a unit if your opponent knows what he's doing.

Just a good amount of higher S attacks directed at it can turn the Steam Tank into an ineffectual unit.

The key to using it properly is therefore in deploying it wisely (away from your opponents high S nasties or high S shooting) and using terrain to keep its fat bulk screened untill you can get yourself a glorious 4 or 5 SP charge of against a worthy enemy unit. I say worthy because there's no use in charging the steam Tank into a sacrificial unit as the Steam Tank itself cannot pursue a broken enemy. Leaving it free to be charged/shot at in the open.
Therefore its actually handy to pair the Stank with a unit of 5 Knights (no upgrades) who can do that for you.

Use as a cannon - marginal, although can be handy to have an extra shot.

USe when combined with another 1? crazily good. unbreakable, ton of high S impact hits, and great AS and toughness. Just beware if it gets charged - no way to hit back in their turn, and you are hit automatically. 1 or 2 wounds isnt great news, and 3+ means you are basically stuck.

Other unit that gets worse - Hydra's breath weapon reduces in strength. As for cheese? Empire need all the help they can get.
