Crazed Spirit of the Defiler

Hi guys n gals,

Due to another recent post, I have spent a little time planning out my star wars themed marine army set during the clone wars. (I want a jedi council or goodiness... Don't care that im breaking history slightly - I want sabers!!!)

I am currently a little stuck for ideas for rhino stand ins

My options so far are:

Chimera with land speeder front stuck on and plasticrd wings (so will look like a shuttle)

or something to convert into this:

Im thinking sentinel (or maybe defiler) legs and some sort of rhino chassis but cant really visualise it. I don't want it to be absolutely perfect but I would like a pretty good-looking finish. Any ideas?

I would go sentinel legs for sure. Just stick some gears onto the joints and it should look fine.

"I.. I know my time has come" Tethesis said with a gasp, a torrent of blood flowing from his lips.
"No! Hang on brother!!" Altharius could feel the warmth slip away from his dear sibling's hands

Tethesis's reached out his bloodied arm to Altharius's face.
"I..I have one final request"
Altharius leaned close to listen, tears welling in his once bright eyes.
"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"
"Yes, you're gonna be the most fethin' cool tank!!" burning hot tears streaked down Altharius's face, as he held his brother's soul in his grasp.

you could probably find a toy of that, the problem is finding one that fits a relative size.

What about something like this Dropship?

Or maybe this Stormtrooper Transport based on the ship in Star Wars flight simulators?

It's too bad you're setting it in Clone Wars era, you could find a place for this in the list.... titan perhaps?

There's a Hasbro toy that might be the best thing:Clone Wars Clone Trooper Mobile Command. It looks almost like an AT-AT body on 8 huge wheels with lots of fiddly bits. It looks like it would be pretty easy to kitbash something like it together.

Thanks for the ideas

There seem to be a lot of transports which are low tracked and open topped - this may be a possibility to kitbash as well

I also really like this:

And it doesn't look too hard to make just from plasticard... May give it a go

Otherwise, there's some stuff from the SW games which is basically an open topped transport which could work

I could also use the republic gunships heavily featured in ep 2...

Valkeries could be a good base for them

Except the gunships are more thunderhawk sized. I've seen a 28mm scale one in a model store in Sydney. Pity it made FW seem cheap by comparison.

They are equipped to carry 30 infantry or a superheavy walker. A valk would be a dropship like the lego one.

There is also a drop shuttle seen in the background in the retouched ep IV. (Lego have done a model of it, and I've seen one plastic kit) - it's 1/72, so a little small (but saying that, the kit is still huge.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

So, dropship could be almost like a big landspeeder with wings? Or a valkerie a better base?

Liking the idea of that

WingWong, check the first link for Dropship in the post above, it's the lego Imperial Stormtrooper Dropship.

I'd consider it open-topped and it might be better to use it as the new Storm Landspeeder, as they're closely resembled.

Lego also has a TIE Tank, based on a tank in the Force Unleashed, IIRC. That might be a good alternative for a Predator or Landraider.

Ok, once again, thanks for the ideas everone.

For rhinos, I think these may be the easiest things to base them on:

Not - how to actually make them ....

Thinking of using a valkeria as a base and chopping the back long bits off- would mean it's almost exactly the size of a rhino.

Any other ideas?
