I played for a while, but never really got too into it. All I saw was a microcosm of the real world...
My original plan was to play for free by making use of the pre-paid market. After some quick research it was pretty obvious this was simply impossible to do w/o resorting to a "illegal" program ( , good steal ALL the fake money and run... GO!!!) to harvest ISK.
If someone is seriously thinking about playing this game, I highly recommend finding something else to do, mainly because the game has all of the excitement of a tic tac toe game when it comes to "combat" (:(... so bored...) and the whole grind thing is some pretty sad stuff...

yeah... Yahtzee sums it up quite well.

I disagree, not every body plays for the pew pew
as for pay and play , its quite easy to do .
Its clear that your not in the game recently , the plex ( gametime ) ,market is fairly steady and the price for a months game play is easily achivable with a weeks gameplay.
oh and Yahtzee is so out of date hes a cock

How much are the PLEX now?
I remember them being 300k Isk when I was playing a few months back. That worked out to around less than a dollar per hour until I had set up my own manufacturing skills. I was with the manufacturing part of the Nights Dawn alliance, but I never really did anything the whole time besides wait and click...
Sure it is achievable to play for free, but when I have a bunch of stuff to do in RL (god forbid) there is no way I am going to make time for EVE. Even when I had figured out how to work with a crew we had to worry about getting robbed, but there was usually a crew waiting to snipe in a pick up bounties. I never felt the whole space thing, which is why I was interested, the whole game was just too distant if that makes any sense. I have to wait for everything, no matter how much energy I put into it; traveling was probably the main thing I hated about the game, it was just annoyingly time consuming, the whole game was quite frankly.
"Note"
At least it isn't WOW .
Please do note I did have serious aspirations of taking over the Eve universe by force, but after a month or two of playing I realized it simply wasn't possible. I had dreams of taking the whole game system by system, no questions only shooting.

I think that playing a game which rewards you for not playing is ridiculous.
That's the same as Martyrdom in either CoD4 or CoDWaW. It doesn't stop me using it though, it's legit. However, it find it strange to include something that rewards you either for losing or playing badly.

"And what is wrong with their life? What on earth is less reprehensible than the life of the Levovs?"
- American Pastoral, Philip Roth
Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags. |

Skills are not rewards.. Isk is a reward. and you need that to buy skills. Offline continual training is part of the persistant state of eve, how else can it work.

I played EVE from January 2006 till about a month ago. Eve is a great game with a huge learning curve, if you think you'll figure the game out in the free trial your wrong. Most people who try it either love it or hate, not much in between. Also realize your actions will have consequences, that shiny new ship with all the maxed out gear is gone if you get blown up. There is no respawn with all your gear. You come back as a clone and have have to repurchases the stuff you had on that ship. All in all though its a great game

I played from about 2004 to 2006. I used to mine in my Raven Battleship while a friend of mine hauled it. We would make torpedoes and undercut everyone and make a killing. I had to stop as I really wanted to play more games

Well I never got into it but I played through Burning Crusade getting my guys to 70 and had fun. (one of the greatest CRPG in history?) Might get into Eve or a game like it someday but not anytime soon. If I get bored of WoW and meet some guys who play maybe sooner rather than later.
