This came up today and no one could answer it well.

When a unit fires out of a transport can they shoot at a different target than the transport?

The argument was they can't since the transport and squad are one unit until they disembark. I'd always played it as they were two squads.

I don't think there's anything in the rules to support the argument that they're somehow one unit and not two. Unless someone gives you a really convincing argument I'd just keep shooting them at different targets.

He knows that I know and you know that he actually doesn't know the rules at all.

They are two separate units, nothing suggests that would change just because they're being transported.

The argument that the unit and the transport are one unit is not based on any facts in the rulebook.

They are two separate units and therefore they fire at different times. When you shoot with each you select a target as normal and therefore they can be separate enemy targets.

From the March 2009, main rulebook FAQ

Q. Must passengers fire at the same target that
their vehicle is firing at?
A. No, they are a separate unit (albeit they are
temporarily co-existing with the vehicle) and so
can fire at a different target.

Thank you all.

A local marine player is quite unhappy with the new 5 fire point chimeras.

I still lost though...

What a silly stance to take to try and claim that they must fire at the target, if the transport and passengers were one squad, you would have to apply shots against them collectively across the whole unit.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

Can heavy weapons shoot out of a Chimera, even though they're technically not lasgun equivs to stick out of the things? I'm assuming if the chimera moves then I cannot shoot with the heavies, but can I put a HWS in there and shoot say 3 autocannons out of it? or 3 mortars?

Yes they can. The bit about lasguns is just fluff. You can Fire 5 Lascannons if you could, or if you have a Vet Squad with 5 Plasma Guns, you can fire all 5.
