Having just started to paint up some Dark Angels for my new marine army i have been looking around for images and had noticed that some are painted the Dark angels green colour whilst others are painted in white such as terminators and landraders. so i was just wondering what exactly dose this mean? and can i use this colour scheme on any part of my Dark angels army?
many thanks Andrew

I would recommend getting the Codex.

Seconded.

I don't have a DA codex myself, but assuming I'm not a complete slow...the bone white scheme is for the Deathwing, basically the chapter's terminators, and the black scheme is for the Ravenwing, all the bikes and speeders. The dark green scheme is for your standard tactical Marines, veterans, etc. from what I can tell. But yeah, you really need a codex, I wouldn't try painting an army like the Dark Angels without one.

the codex is a must, the fluff for the Dark Angels really makes the army and explains the different paint schemes. I had the DA green on my troops but added white helmets to everyone... Termies in bone white and Ravenwing in black...

Color schemes are nice and add character, but it's not a necessary to represent the
army. Modeling appropriately and having the codex, however, is.

Somewhere.

There are three colour schemes for the army, all of which are best seen in the Codex, but as a quick run down...

The Deathwing - The Dark Angel's First Company. All the units in the Dark Angels that wear Terminator Armour are Deathwing, as are any Venerable Dreadnaughts and some of there Land Raiders. There main colour is Bleached Bone.

The Ravenwing - The Second Company, any Bikes (standard and attack) and I believe there Land Speeders are all part of the Ravenwing. There main colour is black.

The Dark Angels - The other companies, operating by the standard colour scheme.

If you can find it, get the Codex: Angels of Death, which is the 3rd ed. codex. It has the most awesome fluff about both DA and BA.

Here look through these for Dark Angel and their successor Chapters for explanations on colors and to get an idea.

Isn't it the 2nd ed. codex?

Getting the codex would really be a good start as they're a bit different than normal Marines in orginization and paint scheme.

As for a way too much information response: Dark Angels originally wore all black armor Pre-Heresy, then changed to dark green after that. Deathwing (1st Company) and Ravenwing (2nd Company) kept the black armor. Then at a later time a squad of Deathwing Terminators liberated their homeworld from a Genestealer cult and the entire company repainted their armor bone white in honor of them.

So 1st Company, the Deathwing, which are all Terminators, their vehicles and any Dreadnoughts from 1st Company are bone white. 2nd Company, the Ravenwing, which is all bikes and Land Speeders are black. 3rd through 10th Companies, which is all Tactical, Assault and Devestator Marines, Scouts and any vehicle not attached to the 1st or 2nd Companies are dark green.
